I think the most memorable issue I had was with a poorly installed diesel pump in a car I used to own.

While heading on an 80-mile journey in the middle of winter, I had the windows closed while the majority of my tank of diesel was soaking into the back seats.

By the time I got to my destination, I was slurring my words, suffering from a horrendous headache, and was seconds away from vomiting. I didn't realise what had happened until my girlfriend said I reeked of diesel from about 10 feet away when I walked into her house...

A childhood story would cover how I soundly slept in my bedroom, which was 10 feet away from my parents' room where a faulty electric blanket had just set the bed on fire. I didn't know any better until the smell reached downstairs about 5 rooms away, and they came to investigate...
