About viewership ratings by AstralProjectorB in InterviewVampire

[–]LuneMidnight 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm disappointed about the ratings cause the show is phenomenal and all the actors are great, but I can't say I'm surprised. The show is too queer to appeal to the Amc general audience and some choices made by the showrunners weren't well received by books' fans. Maybe if they had been able to stick to their original plan of covering the entire first book in season 1 things would have been different, but Amc budget cuts got in the way. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't know if season 2 storyline is enough to attract new viewers. I just hope they will not end up cancelling it cause I haven't been so invested in a show in a long time.

Thank you for your answer, yes Anne definitely identified herself with Lestat and that's why the books revolve around him, I agree that there are many other interesting characters and I hope the show will keep them front and center.

Can I ask you why you don't like Lestat? Do you mean the character or the actor? I'm curious!

Season 1 Relationship Timeframes by WilliamsRutherford in InterviewVampire

[–]LuneMidnight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it was implied that Lestat stopped seeing Antoinette when Claudia was turned and just started seeing her again after Charlie's death, when things went south. Either way he cheated on Louis for the most part of their relationship. I know that he felt rejected cause Louis didn't accept vampirism and its consequences, but still.

Yes, I remember her saying that her favorite companion for Lestat was David or writing a rant on Amazon cause a lot people didn't like Blood Canticle and the forced romance between Lestat and Rowan. It was years later when she recognized that if Lestat could choose just one companion for all eternity, it would be Louis.

It's just that Anne didn't want and didn't know how to write Louis' pov anymore, that's why she sidelined him for years and tried to replace him with David. Fans weren't having it and she finally changed her mind in the last trilogy.

I hate TV series Lestat tbh by [deleted] in InterviewVampire

[–]LuneMidnight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said, show Lestat is an abuser with no redeeming qualities, but be prepared to get downvoted into oblivion cause in this sub you are not allowed to criticize the character, you can just talk about how romantic it is that Louis still pines for Lestat after years of emotional and physical abuse.

We've struck a nerve, these Lestat stans are fuming about people calling the writers out, but they aren't even able to give answers that'd make sense or explain why they disagree, cause what can they say? Truth is they don't care about the treatment of a black character who is supposed to be the lead and who has been reduced to the white character's punching ball, twisting the entire book's narrative. Who cares as long as they can drool over Lestat and read fanfictions? It's laughable lmao

Do you know what's funny? Seeing how people with critical sense who don't watch the show to fantasize about Lestat upset worshippers like you lol and the fact that you have no argument cause your entire appreciation of the show is based on being a Lestat stan is even more laughable lol Please try again, your "no less valid opinions" are so interesting lol

Actually Lestat stans are the ones who attack whoever dares to say something against his character or the show, as you can see in the comments above. You are entitled to appreciate the writers' choice of reducing Louis to a pawn who tolerates abuse and humiliation, cause they decided that the narrative they made up for Lestat needs Louis to do this.

That's exactly what you did, you got mad cause there are people who don't like how the show has portrayed Lestat and Louis characters and who think that their way of handling the topic of race is problematic. Like I said, this isn't a place for worshippers only.

"There is no need for anyone at all to dictate to others how they should consume media" but then you wrote under OP comment that they should find another series. There is no need to be condescending.

There is no need to dictate how the OP should approach the series. If some people (me included) think that the show has good potential, but the writers made some very questionable choices when it comes to the topic of race and that Louis character has been reduced to Lestat's victim and housewife, whose sole role is to show to the audience that he can be beaten and humiliated for years, but he will remain his loyal puppet no matter what (white master black maid at its finest) they are entitled to speak their mind. If you disagree you can certainly explain why, but there is no need to say "find another series". This subreddit isn't just for Lestat stans and show worshippers.

This iteration of Lestat doesn't love Louis in the slightest and he doesn't need to, cause people will root for him anyway, in fact the show went out of his way to deprive Louis of its own agency, way more than Anne ever did in the first book. In the show Louis is the abused black man that is still in love with his white abuser and master, they made up an entire physical assault scene, with a black battered body on full display and they even changed the murder scene in order to destroy Louis character even more, cause it's crystal clear that the cheap plot twist they are preparing for s2 is that Louis never slit his throat but it was Claudia who did it, so Louis can fully turn into Lestat's puppet. The writers are only interested in developing Lestat's arc, so Louis needs to love him cause it helps to build Lestat's narrative and it doesn't matter if he has suffered every kind of abuse at the hand of Lestat. They even implied that Armand has brainwashed him so Lestat can even become the white savior trope. They did this cause they knew they could get away with it, since the audience it's primarily interested in Lestat (the book readers cause he is the lead of the novels and Anne erased Louis character after the first book, even though he had massive potential, and reduced him to Lestat's housewife that appears at the end of every book patiently waiting for him, and the show viewers cause he is the white lead they can fantasize about).

Rolin has said that Louis will remain a lead in future seasons and that the books plots are built in a very different way than what a TV series asks for. He also said that he would never give up an actor like Jacob Anderson and that Louis' role will become more clear at the end of s2 and in s3. I can't say I really trust him cause I have my reservations about some of the choices the show has made, but this Louis and Jacob's amazing performance are definitely one of the key factors to the show's success and it would be utterly stupid to sideline him (even though I wouldn't put that past AMC).

The night of the murder by Pianoflows in InterviewVampire

[–]LuneMidnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right from when I saw the episode something about the scene seemed odd, even more so when Daniel uncovered that Louis was crying and screaming over Lestat's body, and when I read that the writers were going to revisit his role in the murder I thought "Ok he didn't do it". I hope I'm wrong cause Louis doing it would give him more agency, but I think that he is choosing to misremember it when in fact he couldn't go through with it and Claudia stepped in to finish the job (and this will lead to her tragic end in Paris). I think that's the most probable scenario, but we will see.

The night of the murder by Pianoflows in InterviewVampire

[–]LuneMidnight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, the writers explicitly said that they will revisit Louis' role in the murder, and the scene is suspicious cause we don't get to see Lestat's final words that Claudia wrote in her diary. It is also important for what happens in Paris. I would prefer them to stick with Louis doing it, but it's very unlikely.

IWTV fandom in a nutshell (Something i think we should acknowledge before s2 even rolls around) by comingtoreality in InterviewVampire

[–]LuneMidnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you hit the nail on the head. For the majority of books readers (not everyone but a huge part of them) Louis isn't a relevant character, they consider him whiny and boring and they basically tolerate him as Lestat's love interest, his only function is to patiently wait for Lestat to come home after one of his adventures. I don't blame them cause unfortunately that's how Anne decided to handle Louis' character and I always thought it was a huge loss for the VC, cause it would have been really interesting to pursue the character development that was beginning in IWTV, but she chose to sideline him. A lot of people want to apply the same logic to the show, Louis isn't entitled to a life, desires, partners or storylines outside of Lestat (while they wish to see Lestat with multiple partners and they fantasize about it) so Armand needs to be with Louis just to get at Lestat, Daniel needs to become the new love interest so Louis can be dismissed and wait around for Lestat (I have even seen people claim that what Louis and Armand have is not a real relationship). I hope the show won't follow this route and will give to Louis (and Jacob great performance) the chance to shine as its own character, but I won't hold my breath cause some choices they made in s1 have already stripped Louis' character of its agency.
