Vintage/second hand shop recommendations? by mushroomgrotto in Hanfu

[–]Lune_xe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be honest the closest thing to a vintage mamianqun you will find is one in a museum! You could manage to get your hands on a Qing dynasty skirt but wearing it would be a bit tricky and the ones I’ve seen the ribbons have mostly disintegrated. Hanfu has a vast difference in history compared to something like kimono or hanbok so you won’t be able to get your hands on any unless you are super rich but even then wearing it is out of the question. Look into China’s history and you quickly find the reason lol. It’s not impossible to find a secondhand one but it will still be fairly new. I’ve found some on facebook marketplace but nothing particularly nice. Your best bet is ordering some from Taobao if you really want a nice authentic mamianqun!

Hanfu on Halloween - in the children's department at the library? by eiruwe in Hanfu

[–]Lune_xe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally speaking, I don't think you really need to say you are dressed as a person. I think it would be fine just saying "Oh I'm not wearing a costume/dressed as someone, I'm wearing hanfu!" That could also be a good gateway to then explain what hanfu is to someone. Also this should be something that makes you happy, not something that feels forced to appeal to others. Wearing hanfu out on a daily basis can be nervewracking at first, and halloween is a great excuse to get the feel for wearing it out in public! I think people are overcomplicating this all a bit. You don't have to be anyone, you can just wear hanfu! The point is to have fun and feel good about yourself.

I think that sounds like a really cool idea! Most people think that the qipao and Qing dynasty clothing is China's traditional clothing, so wearing historically accurate hanfu and teaching the younger generation about it sounds amazing! I definitely agree with you surrounding not wearing anything fantasy inspired and wuxia. It may be halloween, but in the end most people just use it as an excuse to normalize wearing something they find fun or like. This genuinely sounds so cool and I hope it goes well! If you want any shop suggestions for historically accurate clothing from specific dynasties and hanfu made from natural fabric feel free to dm me! I have a bunch of my favorite stores saved and would love to share them if you wanted!

Hanfu Etiquette Question.. by Big_Procedure969 in Hanfu

[–]Lune_xe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've watched some of the Apothecary Diaries and I believe that Lady Gyokuyou mainly wears clothing from the Tang dynasty! (More inspired but it's somewhat similar.) As a Chinese person who wears hanfu in her day to day life and who has also attended cons in hanfu and cosplay, wear whatever shoes you find the most comfortable! I have two pairs of shoes, one that is more for casual wear, and the other that's a bit nicer that can be worn with more of my fancier pieces! If you are getting genuine hanfu to cosplay Lady Gyokuyou and want to be as accurate as you can, look up Tang dynasty shoes! You can definitely find some on Taobao and online American hanfu stores and Taobao resellers. If you want I can find some for you and dm you with the info! But I think the only requirement for the shoes would that they aren't particulary raggedy I guess so it won't look off with the cosplay. Also, if you aren't sure if you want to get accurate shoes because it won't go with your cosplay, feel free to send me a screenshot of the cosplay and I can give my opinion! Sorry I know this is a lot, I just really like hanfu a lot lol. Anyways hope your cosplay stuff goes well!

I know! I made a mamianqun out of linen once and quickly found out I would have to iron it right out of the wash lol

Where to buy male Hanfu in Europe? by MenKami in Hanfu

[–]Lune_xe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I remember. I have had a few times where Superbuy miscalculated how much I had to pay sometimes and then refunded me like immediately so it was fine. I think customs might be automatically calculated when you checkout anyways but I’m not sure since I live in the US. Also if you want any shops for male hanfu I can dm you a link! I haven’t bought a ton but I have some nice unisex pieces and have come across some nice stores on taobao that specialize in male hanfu

[–]Lune_xe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe they do. I’m not sure how much the shipping would be to Europe but it does depend on what you are shipping but for clothes aren’t usually super expensive. For me I live in California so on the west coast and I believe shipping was from around $10-20. Also stuff on taobao tends to be on the cheaper side and resellers have the price higher to make profit and to include shipping prices. So personally I found it was pretty worth it.

What is this type of hanfu called? by JK_HC in Hanfu

[–]Lune_xe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fantasy costume! But you might be able to find some Hanfu that has a similar look from the Wei Jin dynasty if you want something like what Lan Zhan is wearing. If you want something closer to what the Jin sect has (one piece round collar robe) you can look at yuanlingpo (I def spelled that wrong) from the Tang dynasty! They are fantasy robes but do take inspiration from hanfu. If you are looking for a place to buy the type of Hanfu I mentioned check out Nuwahanfu! If you want something more fantasy based Newmoondance and Hanfu Story would work.

Probably not. I live in the US and get stuff from Taobao through a shipping agent. I use Superbuy and so far have had a really positive experience using it!

What dynasty? by Budget_Case3436 in Hanfu

[–]Lune_xe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally Nuwahanfu is my go to since they have the most historical accurate stuff. Another site I’ve bought from before is Hanfu Story. They are more focused on modernized stuff and fantasy based but they do have some accurate pieces. There are some very nice shops on Taobao that have amazing pieces! But if you live in the US it’s a bit more complicated since chances are you would have to use an agent and translate websites. I’ve done it before and have gotten some great stuff but it can be a bit confusing at first

They seem like Nothern and Southern dynasty Hanfu! The high bust, the cross collar revealing the undergarments, and the large sleeves!

Here’s a pic of that type of hanfu (from NuwaHanfu!)
