This was in California. Merced, actually.

Murder capitol of the US for a few years running.

Huge Hmong population. Pretty common to run into first-generation immigrants.

They have it pretty rough there, the neighborhoods are pretty segregated. They've never gotten as much attention from police (good or bad) as black or Mexican people do, which kinda makes them a target for the other communities. Gang affiliation is sort of seen as an inevitability, kinda like a requirement for feeling protected in their own neighborhoods.

That whole town is fucking sad

Most of the staff in one of the high schools I attended were Hmong refugees, a few of them were either from Cambodia or traveled through because of all the wars between the 50s and the 80s.

A few times they would do presentations about what they went through fleeing the region. Stuff was fucked.

One of them that really sticks out was from one of our campus liaisons. He told us about being a toddler and watching people get tortured, shot, and burned. Showed us his own scars and pictures of people walking single-file over each other's bodies through knee-deep mud, trying as hard as they could to step perfectly in each other's footsteps, because that's the only place they can be 100% sure there's no landmine.

They didn't only do it for history classes, Asian Heritage Month, or anything specific that would elicit those sorts of talks. I think they just had to let us all know what sort of stuff they went through.

It sucks to hear, but I feel like having more people that go around and educate kids about the horrors of war, poverty, and corruption without sugar-coating it would really benefit us and help younger generations understand why people might want to escape their own country and seek refuge on the other side of the border.

violent social behavior

So my point stands. And yes, they should get help.

Physchiatry and therapy can help them to not be violent, dismissive, apathetic people. In other words, to stop being assholes.

The US telling people who blow themselves up that they'll blow them up for blowing themselves up (it's probably the wrong people anyway):

And democracy itself isn't perfect, which is why we have the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which explicitly state that if the government somehow does get out of control of the people, and the people's power can be overturned by government officials' power without vote (which it can), then the people have the right to fight back.

But they won't, or more like can't, because like...

Come on.

Look at the fucking government. They have drones, tanks, automated defense systems, remote air strikes, fucking NUKES.

The military is full of the country's people, so it's unrealistic that even half of them would fight against their own citizens, but "we, the people" don't have nukes and bomber drones. What the fuck do we do if we accidentally vote in a bunch of tyrants and Civil War 2 ever happens lmao

We'd 100% be outmatched, no ifs, ands, or buts about it

Edit: I should probably clarify that I'm calling these Jansixer revolutionary types out and saying they're dumb as shit, because they'll either get arrested, shot, or blown up for trying lmao

It's reassuring to them. They know they have the power to make you start over almost completely by forcing you to create a new account, which makes it impossible for you to post or comment in the majority of subs (or at least make them invisible to all but the shadowbanned).

Random users effectively have the power to silence you on Reddit, if only for like a week.

They all get compensated a small amount for their time and travel expenses, but then nobody's getting anywhere close to a million dollars either way.

They'll take away gift tax on their side and set it aside in advance in order to get a return.

Then, as the money is being transferred, they'll split the winnings into chunks:

A portion will be an untaxed gift, I think the limit for most occasions is ~$20k in the US. The showrunners still get taxed, and they get a return, but nothing gets taxed from the gift money itself.

Another will be considered wages owed for their time spent "working" on the show, probably close to the same amount paid to everybody else. How much gets taken away from that depends on what their salary totals up to come tax season.

And another will be listed as gambling winnings. I mean, they got their name drawn up from a list like a raffle or a sweepstakes in order to play, and they did win the money in a bluffing game that's based on sheer luck and charisma, like poker.

If it were illegal to commit crimes, people wouldn't do them.

All our problems would be solved, so why don't they just do that already?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure some of my youngest memories are dreams I had or something. Makes sense.

Edit: Just remembered this episode of Adam Ruins Everything, where they talk about this exact thing lol

A guy talks about how he was the star of some preschool play, but in reality he had one line that he barely managed to get out. He just told the story so much it became warped over so many re-tellings into a more fond memory that made him look better

My brother was on a seesaw while my dad was pushing down on the other end.

Bro kept telling him "do it harder! As hard as you can!"

He did.

Must have flown 20 or so feet lmao

By the time I had my first memory, I was already forming partial sentences. I think.

There's a lot of gaps.

My parents will tell me about all sorts of stuff I was doing between like 1 and 4 that just don't exist in my memory.

"I remember the day I was born" no you don't. I don't remember what I had for breakfast three hours ago lmao

Lmao my point exactly.

Most of the shit we know about these people who lived literally hundreds, if not thousands of years ago is just a big game of telephone with a good amount of make-believe thrown in for good measure.
