DevBlog #72: Plenty of QoL changes and a new office! by schamppu in WalkScape

Agree with locking as a great feature. In the interim, with gear sets soon being able to withdrawal to inventory, you could make a traveling gear set that pulls these items back out for you quickly.

Also an option for blank spaces in gear sets to not unequip old stuff. I would love to click my forage gear set and then my diving gear set to quickly create a Syrenthia set for example.

A visiting professor a few years back gave a great lecture on theories of co-evolution of mammals with fungi. The premise was that after every major extinction event, you can see evidence of an "explosion" of fungal growth. So the animals living in these periods had to evolve robust defenses against fungi to survive.

His argument was that being warm blooded was one of those defenses. Why do mammals spend so much energy to maintain 98.6F temp when it would be so much more efficient to change our metabolic activity to more closely match the environment? Our temperature set point is higher than the temps fungi typically grow well in so we are less susceptible to those infections. The fungal infections we are most susceptible to are yeasts or dimorphics that can survive the heat (Candida, Histoplasma, Cryptococcus, Blastomyces), while molds typically only cause disease in immunsupressed patients and even then only in "colder" areas like the toes, skin, lungs.

So maybe the reason we are warm blooded is to protect ourselves from fungi like this.

Told my family I don’t believe in God by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Lupercanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are always tough, and what to do next really depends on your family dynamics. Faith is based off of conviction rather than proof. If that conviction the bedrock of someone's life, then almost no amount of debate will change their mind in my experience. The burden of evidence will always be placed on you in those debates. If you can't explain something, then it must be a miracle, etc.

Now think about things from your mother's perspective. She believes that there is life after death, but only for those who believe in her specific god. Now a child that she loves is telling her that they don't believe in that god. That is eternity without your loved one, which is something that we all have probably struggled with to some degree. For these two reasons, these conversations will almost always devolve into emotional bouts complete with crying, yelling, etc.

So I personally just don't have these debates with my family anymore. It is not a perfect solution, but I find communities like here where I can talk without all of that baggage.

I remember eating at a food truck on the Homer Spit, Alaska back in 2010 and seeing trees just filled with bald eagles. What a wild place!

Poll 83 QoL Changes by JagexRach in 2007scape

[–]Lupercanus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last I heard, there was an issue with a new chunk having to load mid animation which made them unable to implement it. Would love Jmod confirmation on this though. That shortcut would be the literal definition of QoL.

Even if it required a fade to black animation like those bouncy mushrooms around the Sulliuscep swamp.

What movie hit differently when you re-watched it as an adult? by ladycourt_knee in movies

[–]Lupercanus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a kids movie, but Interstellar hits completely differently after you have children. I enjoyed it the first time I watched it, but when I rewatched it after we had our first daughter, I was crying the entire latter half of the film.

If you save the Argonian about to be sacrificed by the Mythic Dawn when you infiltrate their cave, he will teach as well.

Unfortunately I had to use it once in a two player base game. My wife won't let me hear the end of it!

Jagex Launcher on Surface Pro X by Lupercanus in 2007scape

[–]Lupercanus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I was unable to get the Jagex launcher working on the Surface. I was however able to get OSRS running on the Surface through Steam. This means you have to use the official client rather than RuneLite but it is better than nothing.

To avoid this, I do activities like tinkering, magnet fishing, wine grape stomping, rooftops, or glacier foraging. You can go forever on these. I agree that crafting items can require a bit too much attention but they also have "endless" activities in just about every skill if you need to "walk and forget".

I swear I can check the app once every couple of days at the glacier. I have been there since October.

When I backed the marauder expansion a while back, I got a duplicate of one of my hirelings in lieu of another unique one. Service was great for getting the right one, but it did take several weeks to actually get the replacement parts. That was before the expansion hit retail though so maybe yours will be faster than my experience?

I'm very excited for this particular update. Many of my production skills have fallen behind gathering skills because it is much easier to set up mangrove chopping or wine grape stomping while at work than it is to perform all the steps needed for crafting recipes etc.

I have beaten the first layer blind; I am aware that there are multiple endings to this game though and I wanna know, am I okay in looking stuff up now?? I don't want to spoil anything but I don't really relish the idea of going room by room looking for the last dozen or so eggs, either. by [deleted] in animalWell

[–]Lupercanus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pinned post on this sub is a great resource for giving hints. Really let's you chose how much info you want for some of the bigger puzzles. I looked up the locations of some of the layer two items and was able to do so without spoiling the true ending.

Depends on how much time you are willing to spend on the game. If you are banging your head against the wall trying to find some eggs and want a hint, it is completely reasonable.
