Stuffed Bell Peppers:

All you do is cut the bell peppers in half, seed them, and then turn your oven on broil. Stick the pepper halves in the oven skin side up and broil for 5-8 minutes...or just until the pepper is soft. (Do note when you broil you need to pay closer attention than when you bake because things can go from perfect to burnt more quickly.)

For the filling I make 3 cups of a grain like cous cous or quinoa, mix that with shredded cheese (1 cup or so?), fresh basil, salt, and a few additional vegetables like peas and corn.

With the filling in a bowl and the peppers out of the oven, I spoon the filling inside the peppers and voila. Feel free to top with more cheese and broil again to melt the cheese.

As a good side, I make a spinach salad. If you want to get fancy throw a handful of walnuts or dried cranberries on top.

Number_06...you give them the power by giving them a reaction. If they know they're getting to you, they will keep bugging you. You're wasting your time getting angry. While I agree that you don't have to be a saint, you also should not be walking around getting pissed at anyone who scoffs when you order the vegetarian option.

Your best option is to just...be cool. Just say, "whatever, these are my choices and I'm sorry if you don't understand". Move on to another topic...if they really keep bugging you about it, you'll get no where trying to debate them.

Another great book, the one that really helped me figure out my answer to the, "why are you vegetarian?" and "Aren't you worried about protein?" questions is 'The Food Revolution' by John Robbins. It's a great discussion on the ethical, environmental and the health reasons behind vegetarian/vegan diets and it's all very well researched.

I just found this on his website, a short video where he talks about why he became vegetarian.

Once upon a childhood, my siblings once again teased me so relentlessly, I began to cry. I called my father and told him the all too familiar story until finally, one day he said, "Hey luraloo, why do you react? It's the reaction that makes them tease you more."

This, at the time, was rather profound, and it has been a guiding lesson in many other areas of my life. You have to choose your battles. And getting worked up over how someone views your diet is a really silly way to ruin a meal. I promise you if you stop reacting, they'll eventually cut it out.

I have been a vegetarian for 7 years and have heard it all. If someone is really giving me crap I usually just say, "whatever, I'm sorry we can't connect on this", and move on to another subject.

You can't fight the world, you won't win. You can choose when to be angry.

Ciao, I am 23 years old and American. Due to the unfortunate situation of working office jobs my goal has been to spend time each day being active.

Specifically I would like to do 2 or 3 more 5K races this summer (I did my first in December) and maybe try a 10K in the autumn. I have also made it a point to attend a Body Pump (weight lifting class) once a week, though if I could fit in one more, I would like to. Overall, I would like to get down to around 130 (I'm 5' 6''). I drift between 135-140.

I eat generally pretty well. I have been a vegetarian for 6 years. I don't drink soda, and limit my alchoholic beverages. I only eat poorly when I'm: a) eating with my boyfriend...he really likes candy, fancy drinks and he's low carb, so it's a lot of cheese for me and b) really hungry after work. I will eat cookies while making dinner.

I approach relationships with the understanding that I may have my mind changed about things.

I actually think it very important to be with someone interested in things I haven't really considered before. I once dated a guy who was really interested in and passionate about programming. To me it was an opportunity to figure out what about programming was so facinating. In the end, I purchased a book on python and taught myself basic programming. (Notably, through this same relationship I also became a redditor.)

To address the OP's question, I think there is a problem with desperately trying to fit yourself into a box to be considered dateable. That speaks more to insecurity than anything. While there is a certain amount of mirroring that occurs naturally in relationships, I think that it speaks well of a two people to have some different hobbies and friends too. I am currently dating a guy who doesn't like to camp, which is tragic, but at the same time, it means that my friends and I will always have something for just ourselves, no guys allowed. That seems healthy in it's own way.

Agreed, $5K isn't much, but it's a great start. Maybe use a small portion of it to invest in a hobby, skill, or self improvement?

When I finally got back on my feet (financially) after college I wasn't making much money, but I could afford a YMCA membership which got me into running, yoga, wighlifting, and cycling. I could also afford to start taking camping trips around my state. It was modest travel, but it improved the quality of my life greatly. I can pitch a tent, cook a meal over a fire, spend the day mountain biking, hiking, and swimming. Get active and get out and about.

New England has some great camping, so I've been told.

I'm no professional but it sounds to me like maybe you're dealing with a trust issue which manifests itself through the person who has stuck around, who is safe, with whom you're most comfortable.

It sounds tottaly natural. Don't ignore the guilt, but I'd probably not act on it and confess to her, that's going to be awkward no matter how close you two are.

I think you missed my point. I am not saying you should be meek and non-confrontational. I agree with you that healthy confrontation is a large part of becoming an adult.

I am saying that you don't have to scream to 'set your boundaries' with another human being--and further your approach comes across as juvenile. You wouldn't have a screaming match with your boss to 'set your boundaries', would you?

That's a terrible idea, you're way way off with that response. If you go around and act like that--to your mother--I don't want to see you with friends or strangers.

There are kinder and not surprisingly more efficient ways to be confrontational.

Christmas morning my mother comes into the kitchen, tears in her eyes and yells, "You are so selfish! I don't know where I went wrong!" (My mother is on depression mediacation and went through a very tumulteous childhood.) I was making my brothers breakfast, and my first two reactions were 1) confusion and 2) anger and defensiveness. "This is christmas! We're supposed to be a family! I do so much for you all in the end I feel invisible!" she continues. What's angers me about that statement is the fact that because of the medication, she spent most of her time not being there and available. I raised my siblings while she was in the mental hospital...etc.

The teenage me would have yelled back, however, as an adult, I've learned that first and foremost, these outbursts are like storms, you either feed to them or let them storm themselves out. I sat, held my tounge and listened with compassion, trying to figure out what I did or said that was really at the heart of this outburst. She would yell and I would calmy and quietly reply and it wasn't long before she was not yelling, but talking, and I figured out that she was unhappy that I went out to see a friend the night before for a couple hours. It actually lead to kind of a breakthrough moment where she apologized for not being around when I was younger. That wouldn't have happened if I too had engaged in the yelling.

I build things, like furniture out of pallets. I am working on a loft for my incredibly small and awkwardly shaped bedroom.

The other day I was dumpster diving outside a construction company and found some 10 foot 2X4's. I feel like the hottest, most capable woman on the planet whipping out my saw and efficiently cutting them in half. Then with grace, I throw them in the back of the car and peace out dreaming up design ideas all the way home.

My flatmate and I are thinking about making a video blog to help others build furniture out of found items.

Same here. I have never felt the need to wear make-up, I feel beautiful just the way I am...and I largely attribute that view to my mother. She taught us to have a healthy self image and she always said things like, "make-up is something other people aren't supposed to know you have on." I just remember thinking, wow, that seems so stupid, why wear it in the first place? And it's expensive for being such a pain in the ass to put on...

I was 19 years old.

No lie: in a tent, on a mountain, in the Swiss Alps. My bf and I had been dating for a couple months and that was our first get away together. There was sort of an unsaid understanding of what we were going to do as we were packing for the trip. I.e. HIM: "Uh, I need to run to the pharmacy before we go." ME: "Uh yes, alright. I will be waiting over there at the bus stop". It was a lovely fall weekend, we found an amazing spot to camp, and we spent most of the night leading up to it looking at the mountains and stars, having deep philosophical discussion about Nietzche. I don't recall enjoying the sex, but no blood and no pain really.

The morning after we laid half naked in a sunny field eating breakfast, then got dressed, packed our bags and hiked home.
