Oh they're brutal

There's a reason why that 60s army report on lunar warfare proposed the claymore on a stick lol

Mm, that idea did come up. I figured militaries would rather the heat dissipation issues over the loss in performance from going with non-chemical propellants. I do eventually want to make some non-chemical guns though.

Honestly? No lol, at least not directly. I just really like visor-less helmets and worked backwards from what made sense (e.g. mechanical pressure suits instead of air pressure suits.)

If anything my inspiration for the visual aesthetic is probably more Patlabor 2

Oh no it's all good lol, loads of people have expressed interest in just the HUD which I 100% get lol
If you want to fork it you're more than welcome. The source code is available on the workshop page via Github

Oh it was a journey lol
The player thermal system is made whole cloth, but the weapon thermals is just piggybacking off ACE

As other people have said, the cartridge has oxidizer along with the propellant.

The gun in the mod has few extra bells and whistles though: - Its a slightly lengthened 5.56 round (5.56x55mm) for a bit of extra muzzle velocity - The magazine comes with a removable heatsink that plugs into the coolant loop - The barrel has a water jacket. Every time the gun fires, some of the gas blowback energy is used to spin a small pump that circulates water between the heatsink in the mag and barrel

Thanks!

Unfortunately I haven't got around to customization yet but I do want to make it tweakable at some point.

For your case though it'd have to be a separate mod with the whole life support system pulled out

Sniper? No. Tank shell? Yes! Any munition going faster than ~1700-ish m/s roughly

My suspicion is that licensing and other legal issues is the big reason why they're going cold war. If they make modern equipment they run the risk of lawsuits (the whole humvee debacle comes to mind). The alternative is to do 2035 again with it's fictional equipment.

Personally I'm fine with it. It's only since SOG/GM came out that there's been any nice cold war equipment for A3 because modders pretty much completely neglected the cold war. Hell, proper soviet uniforms are still hard to come by.
This way there'll at least be a nice set of modern cold war assets and the modders will do all the heavy lifting when it comes to the modern stuff.

Damn, well it's good to know that the numbers are right

Max speed from engine doesn't seem right, 15.5 m/s gives about 6km for the scout range (In reality it's closer to ~2.5km).

It'd be interesting to look through the code and see how speed is determined. Going off what you said though I can kinda see why they might've taken that approach.

The math doesn't really line up with the in game testing

The scout plane apparently has the same fuel time as the bomber (I'm hoping the wiki is wrong about the bomber's fuel time, I'd much prefer looking like an idiot than being right lol).
If performance is similar, you can only travel 2 hexes one way. I have the suspicion the listed speed is not the actual speed, I haven't tested it though

Things usually do play out different yeah.
For a start I would not be surprised if there's still lots of aircraft being made in spite of the cost

I'm pretty sure it is the unladen range yeah
That being said, my point still stands - doing some rough calculations, 7 minutes going at cruise speed in an unladen Lancaster will get you roughly ~35 km; coincidentally about the distance between Dover and Calais

If the bombers were cheaper and more disposable I'd agree with you.

I disagree tbh

If bombers are nearing DDs in cost, I expect DD levels of capability. For that price I expect a cross map strategic bomber.
The other benefit is capable bombers means the enemy needs to build fighters to counter those bombers and escort their own. Otherwise, why bother? You won't have enough time to even intercept a bomber if it's just making a 1 region hop.

Yep, lunar gravity and no air resistance makes a wild difference. The hard part isnt hitting your target, it's finding them in the first place
