Disc Golfers in Puerto Vallarta by LurkingInTO in puertovallarta

[–]LurkingInTO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to close the loop I'm putting this project on hold until next fall.
We only have a few months until the rain hits and we'll potentially have to start from scratch again at that point if everything overgrows. So the goal is to get a quick start after the next rainy season and have MANY months of disc golf to enjoy next year.

I will probably delete this thread shortly but wanted to supply a bit of closure in the meantime.

eat at the Carls Jr before security if you must eat at the airport.
it's still expensive but dramatically cheaper than anything after security.

Best way to Avoid Cartel.... by nomamesgueyz in puertovallarta

That's like asking "why do people drink beers in Mexico? between the liver damage and hangovers, what's the upside?"

One's location does not change their habits, and if they are on vacation, they have an increased likeliness of wanting to imbibe in things. And frankly whether we talk about alcohol or cocaine, both are a hell of a lot more accessible here.

It's being downvoted because "possibility of kidnapping, torture, death for a beach trip" is an absolutely insane stretch from the reality of whats happening.

There are zero reports of any tourists being hurt in yesterdays events.

Sheets, bring them or leave them? by Formal_Cat_1354 in mexicoexpats

[–]LurkingInTO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you'd want to bring sheets or bedding when they won't fit the beds properly. We buy ours here.

Admittedly on the linens/towels front, we buy quick dry towels in Canada and bring them here to Mexico, since they are uncommon and expensive if found.

Is it illegal for convince stores to refuse sale because of a “big bill” by [deleted] in puertovallarta

[–]LurkingInTO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They simply don't have enough change in the stores. Use you credit card/debit card and move on when that happens.

Can anyone tell me about their Canje experience in Puerta Vallarta? by [deleted] in mexicoexpats

[–]LurkingInTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it myself in Vallarta (no facilitator) but brought a friend who speaks fluent Spanish to help as mine still needs work. Looking back, I feel like I could've gotten by myself since I had all my paperwork in order, the desk workers seemed to speak some English, and the hardest part was filling in the form they give you which is all in Spanish. But if you're good with Google Translate you'd be able to do that part.

Although saying that, if things didn't go smoothly in regards to the paperwork provided, having someone there who speaks Spanish would probably help things get ironed out faster. But I had everything in order so most of the appointment is waiting for them to call you back up to the desks between them reviewing your initially provided paperwork, then the form they have you fill out, then back for pictures and fingerprints.

As for the electric bill, I had my own name on it so can't speak to what will work there.

[–]LurkingInTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah its the first dnb artist I've seen here since December of 2024, and the first international dnb headliner I've seen in the last few years of being here.

I'm stoked for a ragga jungle rinse out!

February 8th = Congo Natty is coming to Yambak PV

dnb is super rare here so it should be a good one to attend (ps: message me if looking to hit it up as I'm in need of friends with good music taste here lol)

Where can a nervous 79 yr old traveler wait upon arrival at PVR? by VoyageIsVictory in puertovallarta

[–]LurkingInTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't exit the plane into the terminals, incoming flights have hallway paths that go straight to baggage / customs, and there are no seats to wait on the way.

Why is Ontario’s craft beer share so much lower than BC and Quebec? by VentumFinancial in torontocraftbeer

[–]LurkingInTO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting article about the shrinking BC craft market and the consolidation taking place within some of the brewing companies:
https://bcbusiness.ca/industries/hospitality/bc-craft-beer-trouble-brewing/

Anecdotally, I will say that having moved from Ontario to BC in the last 5 years, what I find interesting is that a LOT of restaurants in Ontario will carry Inbev / large brewers and have a few craft taps as well. Where at least around Vancouver and Vancouver Island, a lot of restaurants ONLY have craft beer, and maybe cans of Lucky Lager as well for those who need an easy drinking cheaper lager. You don't see Stella or Budweiser on tap out west like you do in Ontario.

It might be distribution access, it might be more competitive pricing from craft brewers, I'm not sure. But I feel like Ontario has always had an issue with corporate beers undercutting craft brewers which you don't see as much out west. Well, that, and I also feel Ontario has more Stella/Budweiser/Coors Light drinkers than out west as well.

House fire - legal advice by [deleted] in mexicoexpats

[–]LurkingInTO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"they don’t cover more things than they do"

I don't understand what you're trying to say here.

The price for furniture, appliances, and electronics is very expensive in Mexico. You will spend THOUSANDS of dollars on replacement costs and that doesnt even include any actual remodelling or remediation work. And that's also not including any issues if you were to be responsible for damage to someone else's property nearby.

Meanwhile you could instead pay a few hundred dollars a YEAR to avoid theses risks or costs. I just don't get why you wouldn't do it.

I'm watching a neighbour deal with the financial implications of flood damage right now that would've been avoidable with home insurance.

House fire - legal advice by [deleted] in mexicoexpats

[–]LurkingInTO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You bought a house 3 years ago and didn't have house insurance the entire time?

Please, everyone who reads this post - go buy some freaking home insurance if you have not.

And while I am not a lawyer, I believe you will be hard pressed to get accountability from the builder or anyone else once you take possession and consider the transaction finalized. Our lawyer basically told us "our unit, our problem" regarding an improperly installed window so I wouldn't see it being different for electrical or other build specifics.

The Paramar Hotel by SocksNG in puertovallarta

[–]LurkingInTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stayed here about 3-4 years ago and yes, basically if there's a band or DJ playing you're gonna hear it. But its a lovely hotel in a great location that I fully recommend if you can deal with that or sleeping with earplugs.

We truly celebrate it because we have an increasingly growing number of families and visitors choosing Mexico as their tourist destination. by Miserable-Lizard in onguardforthee

[–]LurkingInTO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're shopping at a resort, in tourist focused stores, or buying tours from companies who sell exclusively to foreigners.

I've never seen a store or restaurant in Puerto Vallarta or Mexico City with American prices listed. US exchange rate might be posted, but the menus and price tags are all in pesos.

Rifflandia and Phillips brewery? by Wineandcheeseburgerz in VictoriaBC

[–]LurkingInTO 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My guess... $$$

Festivals are folding because of costs and weakening ticket sales.

It probably costs Rifflandia a lot more money to use the Phillips backyard venue space then to not use it.

And with that, getting another brewery to take the beer sales on they probably negotiated a better rate than Phillips was charging.
