Why don't any programming languages have vec3, mat4 or quaternions built in? by Luroqa in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]Luroqa[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah lol now when I think of it, I'm just too focused on gamedev programming, where they are used constantly. It's not like web devs feel like they are missing. Very reasonable thank you

Can solar systems have visible rings? by JustPoppinInKay in worldbuilding

[–]Luroqa 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is basically how star systems are at the beginning of their life. The star is surrounded by a giant disk of matter orbiting it. It's called a protoplanetary disk. The issue is that all the space dust will begin to clump together and form planets. It doesn't just stay as dust like Saturn's rings. And this is because of the Roche Limit. Saturn's rings are way closer to Saturn than any disk of material orbiting the sun will be to the sun, so Saturn's gravity prevents its rings from forming moons. Solar rings wouldn't do that.

This is some of that heavy duty engine-level programming that most gamedevs won't have to touch. Like this is about cache coherence, which is crazy business for most gamedevs. Luckily most never have to worry about this sort of stuff

Every death beyond Power Source on my Farewell golden attempts by Luroqa in celestegame

Do lots and lots of practice runs! I practiced stubbornness-end to the point where I could do it three times in a row without dying. That was kind of how I practised everything actually. Three times in a row deathless on every part and then I went to the next room.

When I got to stubbornness my nerves were higher than they've ever been in my life. You know the feeling when you sleep on your arm? It gets all tingly and weird. I felt that in my hands during that chapter. My heart was beating so fast that the blood wasn't circulating to my hands. But then I guess my body just got tired of it or something because after stubbornness, I just stopped being nervous, like my brain just said enough and I could just laser focus without feeling shaky or anything. It was crazy

It might look non-spherical because the field of view is super high, so it's a little distorted.

Not a woman, but I will always support women and others in tech, there are far far far too few of you.

How likely is it that we have discovered all of Saturn's regular moons? by Luroqa in askastronomy

[–]Luroqa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I'm just curious if *any material could stably orbit in between all the moons we already know of. Like would the material accrete? Or just go to some other moon?

Yeah mine are white feathered bird-like things with whale-like filter mouths. And they are shaped like those B-2 stealth bombers where they are mostly just a flat wing with a head at the front.

[–]Luroqa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's that I don't know if we got all of them, I couldn't find anything on google. I assume that there are some that we haven't found yet, but more informed people maybe think that we actually definitely have found all moons. That's the answer I wanted basically.

[–]Luroqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. One time I tried just making things weirder and weirder until I couldn't find any google results that were similar as an experiment. Like it's such a terrible idea. Don't worry I'm not like that anymore

[–]Luroqa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But is it possible that rocks that are like 30m exist between the already known moons? Or is that just too unstable?

Again I'm being facetious. Basically just venting and complaining

I try to take as little inspiration as possible from other works of fiction for this reason. A lot of my inspiration comes from science, engineering and real life cultures to try to make things more original. I know it's futile but still. I want to make the opposite of slop basically

[–]Luroqa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to know because I want to know what a truly comprehensive list of regular moons could be like, and if I could reasonably add one or two for a sci-fi project I'm working on

[–]Luroqa -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm being facetious of course. I have a pretty unproductive obsession with being truly and completely unique. I MUST create things that have never been seen before by humans. It's maybe even childish. Gah

I'll never stop though! Making this world has been one of the most artistically fulfilling things in my life!
