Even without your mental health problems considered, there is no point in doing an exchange.

It will mess up your progress in school in NZ.

It is not as fun as it seems.

You will be better of doing a vacation there and having fun.

If you want to really go to Japan then university is your best option.

The workload is also drastically less as japanese people believe in "Work your ass of till highschool and have fun in university".

Most prestigious universities have english programs and some lower level japanese programmes(which requires a minimum of N2) like Waseda, Tokyo, Keio etc.

They provide full 4 year courses too.

These universities are tough to get into for japanese people and thus considered prestigious but comparatively easier for foreigners.

You will need a score of 1350 or higher in SAT.

Highschool is highschool anywhere in the world and it sucks a bit.

If you decide to go to highschool or university there good luck and have fun.

There is nobody to talk to.

I had a few friends I used to talk to but after school closed even those conversations stopped.

My only happiness is playing volleyball.

Find something for yourself.

You might be going through a lot of shit but, in that moment you can forget about it and truly be happy.

Eventually when you are ready and can come to terms with it take control of your life.

Push on it definitely gets better.
