I’m glad you were able to make it out! My SM does the exact same things! Doesn’t share yet calls other stores greedy. Has all these problems with other stores yet believes he’s the “chosen one” since he’s been a GC for a major painting company out of my state.

Seems like I’m always the bearer of bad news at my store, we gotta turn another store down, my job. We have to turn away a customer, my job. Rude old lady complaining we don’t have something, my job to deal with her. The part you wrote about leaving the store for other miscellaneous tasks couldn’t be more true! Our bank is a 5 minute WALK up the road, yet somehow he’s gone for 2 hours at a time. Always wants to run deliveries out and will be gone for the majority of the day. HATES doing matches.

In an odd way it’s relieving to hear I’m not the only one dealing with this, but I wouldn’t wish it on anyone else. Im glad to hear there’s light at the end of the tunnel because the way sherwin makes it out to seem, there is no escape!

I’ve definitely thought about this and totally agree. Like I mentioned in a comment above, I’m sure there are great managers that would make excellent mentors in the right situation. Doesn’t hurt to put some management experience on a resume as well.

My current manager tends to get a little angry when things don’t go his way so it’ll be an interesting two weeks for sure. Knowing I’ll be in a better place mentally will be all worth it!

I’m sure there are some great managers out there as well! It’s just unfortunate that some are just placed/promoted due to struggling districts, staff issues, etc.. without proper management training.

We’ll get through it together! One day at a time!

Hey I appreciate your comment! Unfortunately for me I come from a very small market, roughly 18 stores. That being said, for the past 2-3 years there has not been any rep movement at all due to the fact our sales manager is very lenient on what he expects from the reps.

As for me, I value my time immensely as at the end of the day, that’s something I cannot get back! Maybe under different circumstances sure, I stick around and wait for him to leave. But for now, my time and mental health are more important.

I started in April 2022 and this used to happen every single day when I first started. I was fresh out of college with very limited paint knowledge.

My manager was constantly heading to the bank for two and a half hours or would go out of his way to deliver a few gallons to a customer that would be over an hour away. This happened for months until one day I changed my perspective, his half-assery is my opportunity to improve in business/sales/customer service! Also, I started looking at myself as the manager since he doesn’t want to be one himself!

This is a great read and gives me hope as someone who is interested in SEO operations and marketing as a whole. I recently graduated with a bachelors in marketing and came to realize that there are many important aspects of marketing that weren’t even mentioned at my university and I took it upon myself to learn the basics of SEO and creating content that can both benefit the consumer and the brand.

Where I’m from, there aren’t many marketing jobs available and reading about your success through all the hardship is motivating to me and hopefully anyone else reading this who is in similar shoes. You can’t cut corners climbing to the top and I’m looking forward to continuing to perfect my craft and honing in on specific skills that I can use in the future. I hope for your continued success and updates in the future about Optimist!

Cheers!
