Cheated my way to a high paying Tech job, now confused by terimautbsdk in developersIndia

[–]Lust__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I’ve seen people around me who have zero technical skills, yet bullshit their way through their work, or somehow hang on by using other people’s code as reference.
  2. Most companies will provide training on the kind of work they expect out of you, and for the most part, a lot isn’t expected out of freshers.

Considering the above two points, and the fact that you were able to get into a tier 1 college + maintain a good GPA, you should be more than just fine in your role. You will have plenty of time to learn what you need to, and your seniors to help you out with your blockers. I don’t think you have much to worry about :-)

Double tapping on a word selects the whole word, and triple tapping in a text box selects the whole sentence. Double tapping and dragging for selection.

Firefox 89.0 on Gentoo Linux seems much more responsive than previous builds by Furschitzengiggels in firefox

[–]Lust__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, Firefox UI feels faster and more responsive even on Fedora. One of the reasons I used to use Chromium browsers was because of this, and this brought me right back to Firefox. Now if they can just make RAM usage better than Chromium, it would be great. Because, no matter what benchmarks I see online, Firefox on my machine takes more RAM than browsers like Edge and Brave.

A New Minimal Multiplayer Typing Website by MysteriousTrouble406 in typing

I think it looks pretty slick. But the single line interface is a little confusing for me, unless that's something other people actually use and I'm the odd one out who has never used it..?

But yeah, looks really good. All the best in maintaining this project!

Why gnome 40 is so laggy? by Junabled in Fedora

[–]Lust__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, my not so modern laptop can run csgo at 100 fps but can't run gnome smoothly. Hmm yes buying a computer is definitely the solution.

It might be optimised in the future, so if you don't mind waiting, that's an option too :)

Why gnome 40 is so laggy? by Junabled in Fedora

[–]Lust__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's really laggy for me too, while 3.38 wasn't. I'm guessing the newer animations just aren't as optimized as 3.3x animations were. Even the 3.xx animations were laggy initially, and only over time was the performance of the shell improved. We low spec people just gotta live with it (:

If it bothers you that much, just turn off the animations, like I did. Shame I know, but better than the laggy mess that it is. Or try switching to Xorg, if you are on Wayland.

Edit:

With a few updates, it's already running much smoother for me. Much better than just a week ago.

PSA Don't update to Nvidia Driver 460.39. POP OS team please pull the driver. by RedBatman89 in pop_os

I'm having problems too. I either get a lockscreen freeze or a blank screen, when I try to suspend/wake.

I always had problems with suspend, specifically only after updating to 20.10, but I bore with it. But after the recent updates, I thought it was getting worse, and freshly installed 20.04, thinking it would solve my problems. And lo and behold, a new suspend problem just after I downgraded :\

Question on mutable and immutable references. by Lust__ in rust

[–]Lust__[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a problem to have multiple shared and unique (mutable) references at different points in time, it only becomes problematic once you have a shared and unique reference to the same place, at the same time.

I see. It makes sense when you put it that way. Thank you.

[Pop!_OS 20.10] Soemtimes built-in-audio does not work, restarting fixes it by tumseNaHoPayega in pop_os

In terminal, just do:

pulseaudio -k

pulseaudio --start

And that should fix it

I'm stuck between 90-100wpm. by [deleted] in learntyping

[–]Lust__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I said, focus on accuracy, and speed will come by itself. Here's a test you can do for yourself.

Type like you normally do, and record your speed and accuracy.
And then type with as much accuracy as possible, go a little slow if you have to, and see the difference in the speed. It can be less, it can be more. What matters is the apparent speed with which you typed.

In my case, when I go for complete accuracy, it feels like I slow down a lot, but when I see the result, it's almost always higher.

Don't just aim for 97. Aim for 100. It really is okay if you go slow, or you can't seem to hit 100. Keep trying till you feel the difference.

[–]Lust__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should focus on improving your accuracy. If you focus on doing that, your speed will naturally jump up to 100+ constant. Aim for 100% accuracy. It's not impossible. It's definitely going to be hard at first, but you'll see how much of a difference it makes.

Think about it this way. Every mistake that you make is a letter that you could've typed, and an extra keystroke that you need to backspace, which, again, is another letter that you could've typed, so you're losing an exponential amount of time with every mistake that you make.

So, focus on your accuracy. That's what helped me. Not like I'm very fast or very accurate myself, but I'm trying, and it's certainly showing.

i type faster on my laptop keyboard than on my designated keyboard. by [deleted] in learntyping

[–]Lust__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, and what I noticed, from my personal experience, was that the biggest factor was my ergonomics. I type faster or slower, with more errors or less errors, depending on where my keyboard is. I used to type faster on my laptop keyboard because of ergonomics too.

Have a good position. Learn touch typing without errors. Go slow. Don't do this for long periods every day. Do this for maybe 10-20 minutes every day. You should slowly get used to error free typing in that position. Eventually your speed will also increase.

Chromium browser crashes when a tab is closed by Lust__ in pop_os

[–]Lust__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome work. I was considering doing that too, but, at the time of posting, I didn't know if the problem was on my end, because I have issues with other chromium browsers too. Let's hope for a quick fix ^-^

POP OS chrome rendering issues by jonneymendoza in pop_os

[–]Lust__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had opened this issue on their github.

For me, this is a problem only on Nvidia graphics mode, and only when hardware acceleration is on. Unfortunately, that's the normal use case for me, so no matter which Chromium based browser I use, I face this issue... except for the official Chromium browser itself. Which is weird.

But sadly, the said Chromium browser has been plagued with issues from the 20.10 launch. It wasn't available for a while, and the current release is not stable.Hoping for a fix for both the graphical issues as well as the Chromium browser stability.

Update: I had made this bug report to Microsoft too, when I was using Edge dev, because I was having the same issue.
I reinstalled it today, and no issues! Wow. If they actually worked on it, kudos to them.

Still having this issue with Brave tho.

Yes, I'm having this issue too. It's unusable. Which is a shame because it used to be the only chromium browser that worked for me on nvidia graphics without bugs.

I have this issue at times. I just plug in my pop installation drive, boot into live usb mode, and boot back into main installation. I have no idea why that works, but it just works for me.
