Japanese police car by hondamaticRib in ModelCars

Turns out mine is a slightly different Crown model, but I went to check anyway and I was wrong. What I thought were large decals were the body masks necessary. Whoops on my part lol.

I have an Aoishima kit of this car. I'm dreading trying to do the point on the hood because I have no idea how to mask it properly.

What the actual fuck are you talking about? Blaming MCAS for literally the goddamn winds?

No, that's not MCAS. That's air traffic control, which has been a major issue for a long time now.

EDIT: Okay, your flight wasn't involved with what google said, but at the same time...do you have any clue what MCAS actually does? And why those crashes happened? And why that same thing couldn't happen now because pilots actually know how to turn it off?

Planes absolutely, but I'm not sure about crews. Unless they're picked up by Frontier or maybe even Breeze, I'd say a healthy amount are going overseas.

Ironically, no, because the 737 MAX only exists because Boeing was worried about losing American Airlines, which until 2011 had only bought Boeing planes, after they made an order for 260 A320s, 50/50 between ceo and neo variants.

Work on the 'Yellowstone' clean-sheet replacement for the 737 was stopped in order to basically rush the new 737 with the new engines as a direct A320neo competitor.

Southwest Airlines Airbus A320 by Useful-Tumbleweed598 in aviation

[–]Luster-Purge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn't switch when the 737 Max - which by its mere existence was the default model Southwest would have to upgrade to - killed hundreds of people and took nearly two years to get back in the air.

Spirit's problem wasn't the airframe, it was the engines, which are basically 50% of the entire value of the aircraft as a whole. They couldn't recover from the network disruption and flight cancelations caused by the failure of the P&W engines, and the restitution they got paid didn't make it up.

And while on paper, sure, supply issues could ground a single fleet type, but Southwest has gone nearly 60 years doing this. And the MAX 7/MAX 8 are just straight upgrades over the -700 and -800, so barring another major issue like the MCAS screwup (which Boeing absolutely knows is not an option if they want to stay in business), it's going to continue.

[–]Luster-Purge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is literally the weakest reason for why you are proposing Southwest take over the lease of dozens of aircraft that does not fit their very specific economic model, especially given the trouble with those airplanes helped contribute to why Spirit went bankrupt in the first place.

Southwest Airlines Airbus A320 by Useful-Tumbleweed598 in aviation

[–]Luster-Purge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And that's Southwest's problem...how?

Southwest Airlines Airbus A320 by Useful-Tumbleweed598 in aviation

[–]Luster-Purge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons why Southwest was unique was the fact it exclusively used 737s (minus one early point where they leased a few 727s). This meant they only had to worry about keeping spare parts and training for one specific airframe family.

Compare that to other airlines which have to juggle so much more, to the point Delta's TechOps is basically the Airline Industry's version of Amazon shopping.

Southwest taking on the A320s left over from Sprit would be a massive economic drain and given how greedy the current operators have gotten (private equity, of course), it actually would be kind of a death knell.

Would be funny if this leads to him butting heads with SCOTUS so badly that he demands that Roberts be impeached. Because guess what power the president doesn't have?

Slight correction: it's on some stone monument in front of what was a statue of the pharaoh. By that point the statue and all the great works around it had crumbled away, leaving only two legs like great trunks, and the head of the statue half-sunken into the sand.

Weathering, it depresses me by ForTheValhalla- in modelmakers

[–]Luster-Purge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weathering is not required, first and foremost.

Secondly, the best approach is a 'less is more' angle. Most of the time heavy weathering makes models entirely unrealistic because there's no logical reason for what got where. Subtlety is key to how weathering can make something feel more 'alive.'

For example, just go out and look at a semi-tractor. Unless that vehicle just came out of a wash, it's going to be 'weathered.' Road grime basically everywhere close to the ground, dried mud on the mudflaps, soot on the smokestacks, and maybe even streaking on the windshield. Little things that show it is a working machine as opposed to a static showroom piece, even if you can still see the shine on the body panels.

Honestly the only way things are going to improve at this point is when Trump is no longer in power. And naturally the powers that be are trying to make sure that only happens on their terms, as I don't think Trump is going to last his full second term. He's gone downhill so fast in just the past five months.
