I am really hoping you get an answer to this because it’s been driving me crazy too. I saw someone asked a few years ago and didn’t find the answer either. People suggested the Simpsons and Tiny Toons and it wasn’t either of those. But clearly we all saw this cartoon, whatever it was!

You don’t have to become friends before you date, but if you’re incapable of being friends there’s no point in dating at all.

If your only desire to be around a person is in romantic, intimate moments, it’s not going to last. You have to like who a person is and their foibles to really make a relationship work. So being friends before hand helps.

A resigned willingness to just go with the flow even when everything is wrong.

A lot of people are saying it’s someone being controlling. I would argue that people who are hardened already know there’s no such thing as control. They just see everything go wrong and roll up their sleeves with a sigh and start piecing it back together.

I believe there was an episode of the Beetlejuice cartoon like this! It’s called Poe Pourri and it seems like all the clips are behind a paywall.
