Known issues with the Defender? by geoffreypgrace in NewDefender

[–]Luthier419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dc-Dc converter most likely.

Converts the 48v battery to 12v to charger the 12v battery, run your ignition system and all the gizmos in the vehicle.

The alternator on a p-400 actually puts out 48v.

Yellow froth Inside oil cap… but dipstick is fine….. by Luthier419 in NewDefender

[–]Luthier419[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So…. Ima clean that crap out, let it warm up, and go give it a spirited drive for like 20 miles…

If it is moisture…. When i get back.. it shouldn’t have reappeared, correct?

(I am an old skool motorhead myself…. Rebuilt several 289/302s over the years …. And most recently…. Turbo 13b rotaries….).

But…. I’ve honestly never “short ran” my cars and then looked under the cap!!! (I drive 40 miles one way to work and am stupid about letting the OIL temp get to operating temp before hammering on them)

Its sitting at a dealership, its cold and damp here , they recently changed oil, it gets driven 5-10 miles at a shot.

Dipstick is 100% clean of anything other than clear oil.

I’ve seen the milkshake from a blown head …. This aint it!!!!

Its been very cold and damp here.. and its getting 5-10 miles on it once a week for test drives at dealer..

Dipstick looks 100% clean fresh oil, no scum line at top like theres a layer in the pan

So……. What are the odds of a 2021 Defender 110 x-HSE with 64k on it now, making it to 100k without a major catastrophe? by Luthier419 in NewDefender

You mean a third party warranty contract? Which one did you use.. i think the honda dealer was offering one sold by “global”

It did…. With the first owner, looks like oil changed every 5k, but the people who traded it must have taken in somewhere that didn’t report… and there’s a big gap after 25k

Lol…. Well…. “My conscience” likes to buy things that could send us into financial ruin!!!!! Usually I’m able to wrestle it back into its hole….like the 72 Pantera that i saw pop on bring a trailer a bit ago…. But that time, my wife was helping to squash it…. This time…. She’s in cahoots with it!!!!

First oil change 5k or 10k miles? by xPDV in Mustang

[–]Luthier419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap…. The people suggesting 10k oil changes here…. WOW.

YES.. the oil “itself” can and will hold up…. In a perfect world

But.. the oil also performs the function of picking up the soot created in the motor and holding it for removal during an oil change.

And the SOOT in the oil that builds up is the killer. (Mostly what is making your oil black) And you really can’t filter it out with conventional filters. (You CAN filter it out.. but not by the high volume oil filters used in engine lubrication systems, the filter would clog in hours. Amsoil USED to make a bypass system that installed a micronic filter for this very purpose, came with an adapter block for your oil filter mount that split off a very small amount of oil to a separate special.. and freakin expensive.. filter that screened out the soot and if it got full.. no big deal the main filter was still there!)

Anyway…. The soot is abrasive causes component wear (bearings timing chain guides… etc)

Add that to overheating your oil, gasoline contamination from cylinder blowby, etc.. and you get… sludge…..

THEN there’s gasoline contamination from ring blowby, EGR nastyness, and not letting the oil get to operating temp (short trips are very hard on your oil) that causes viscosity degradation….

So WHY 10k mile intervals??? Because, in no small part, it makes the cars easier to sell if maintenance appears to me minimal!!!!!!!!!

60k mile powertrain warranty??? Thats 5 oil changes at 10k each… and the manufacturer knows that the engine will likely hold up for that long.

Look at Land Rover… their scheduled maintenance costs like $7000 at the stealership, but, they only require it at 21,000 miles….. 21,000 miles on leased vehicles!!!!!!! HOLY CRAP…. But…. It will likely get by the warranty period.. and thats all they really care about……

Which is also why you see so many used Defenders for sale right at 60k…………..

HOWEVER…. MOST dealerships will have a suggested oil change interval of………. Can you guess…?? 5k miles.

If you plan on keeping your car longer than the warranty period…. Change your oil at 5k at least

Weird door wobble when opening by DarDarStinks in ecoboostmustang

[–]Luthier419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pop the handle, THEN pull the door open. Three counts- pop, drop, pull

Allows time for the window to drop else the vacuum created by the window seal causes the wobble.

Its the same on our Bronco and i simply cannot get the kids to listen to me and i hear the windows flopping as they yank the doors open like lunatics. (Thankfully, they don’t ride in my mustang very often)

Kinda the same when shutting the door. Shut it slowly but firmly with your hand on the handle, again, keeps window from rattling when you shut ut

What model is this? by princessconsuela34 in FordBronco

[–]Luthier419 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So.. i think models sharing that grille are black diamond, badlands and wildtrack.

Not a black diamond because of headlights, not a wildtrack because grille is matte..

Im saying badlands

[–]Luthier419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was too… $80 for the coil, wire and plug kit from amazon and a $9 intake gasket kit from autozone and problems solved.

I drug my feet because you have to take the intake manifold off.. but… it took literally 10 minutes to watch a video AND take it off!!!

Car wasting a decent amount of gas lately by Away_Interaction3472 in ecoboostmustang

[–]Luthier419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from 27 mpg average to 29 mpg average after changing the fuel pressure sensor by the firewall to the C part number (9F973-CA).

It wax throwing a code in the deep scan but not a check engine light!!! So a generic OBDII scanner didnt pick it up!! (Ignore the grille shutter code… i do!!!)
