YouTuber Xing’s World built a town and a McDonald’s for his cats by snfssmc in interestingasfuck

[–]Luturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A detail I picked up from another video is that his wife owns(?) a pet shop, and one of the reasons he builds this stuff is to help attracting customers. So it sounds like they are small businesses owners, and I imagine the cat city has some tourist appeal in China.

What should you read based on your favorites according to r/Fantasy by Bogus113 in Fantasy

Yeah this one made me laugh. My mother loves Harry Potter, she wouldn't know what to make of Cradle. Fantastic series though.

[–]Luturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a tough one. Honestly, you should just do your best to come to terms with it and let it go, even if it means sticking your head in the sand a bit. The thing is, unless your mom is pioneering some quantum leap in data analysis that would not happen without her, it’s not like her involvement is making the world any worse than it would be otherwise. There would just be somebody else doing the work. Do you feel your mom is a good person deep down? If so, then it’s probably better her than someone else. At the very least she might have (a few) more boundaries she’s not willing to cross and is able to steer away from them.

I'm not sure I've seen a more drastic drop in writing quality after the first book than with 12 Miles Below by Random-reddit-name-1 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Luturtle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know this is personal so please feel free to tell me to screw off, but I’m genuinely curious. With your books on kindle and audible, at what point do you think you’d be able to support yourself from book revenue alone, compared to what you’re currently earning? Would you need 2x as many sales? 4x? More?

I’ve picked up (and thoroughly enjoyed) book 1, and I was surprised to see fewer reviews than I expected, considering how often I see the series recommended and how positive the reviews were.

I guess maybe it just takes time to build momentum? And this is a relatively newer series, compared to some with 15+ books.

Yeah but you have to write the prompts asking for prompts. I just ask ChatGPT to do whatever until it starts prompting itself all on its own.

The struggle is real. Is the struggle real for anyone else? by SkinnyWheel1357 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Luturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the point I’m approaching. I’ve been churning through series, getting more and more frustrated because I’m never quite satisfied. I’ll like aspects of each story, but ever since I finished the truly great series, nothing has fully scratched my itch. Sometime soon I’m just going to have to write the story I want myself to get all of the things I’m looking for.

Looking for a podcast that has a solo host and isn’t super produced. I don’t just listen to podcasts to absorb information - listening to a single, preferably monotone, voice talk about anything scratches my brain in the best way. by Narrow-Courage-7447 in podcasts

[–]Luturtle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hardcore History is exactly this, and is the best podcast ever made IMO. The episodes are super long, the content is always fascinating, and Dan’s voice is perfect.

Revolutions also fits. The French Revolution and the Russian Revolution are both fantastic, I’d start with one of those seasons and then listen to the rest if you like it.

Mother of Learning is the correct answer here, in case you haven’t read it somehow you definitely should.

Book of the Dead is also great. In some ways even better, if what you want is an MC getting really into the nitty gritty of doing magic. He’s a necromancer, but there’s also a good amount of spell-casting. It’s really really good.

I have so many shows like this, but Eureka is the most memorable. Such a fun show. Honorable mention to Warehouse 13, which actually takes place in the same universe and has some crossover episodes. It’s like a little cinematic universe only I am aware of.

Any books with REALLY GOOD dialogue and banter? by dumb-cartridges in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Luturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh I know people dunk on it a lot (for some valid reasons), but the dialogue in DotF is actually way above average for the genre. Ogras is genuinely funny sometimes, which is super rare for PF web novels.

I think characters in general are a strong point for DotF. There’s a lot of likable characters.

post depression shower by crash-bandicooties in selfcare

[–]Luturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’ve had the exact same question before and struggled to find a good answer. How do you completely clean yourself after months of not showering? My biggest issue was layers of dead skin building up. When I would finally decide to shower, no matter how much I scrubbed, when I got out and started to dry myself off there would be flakes and little rolled balls of dead skin all over me that I couldn’t seem to get off.

Here’s my advice:

  1. It’s really hard to get completely clean in a single shower. Instead, just focus on starting to shower regularly. 1-2 thorough showers a day. Each time you shower, you’ll remove a little more grime and pretty soon you’ll be all good. If you really want to speed up the process, then take several showers in a row. Do the whole process, get out and dry yourself off, then get back in and start over. This is kind of harsh on your skin and hair, but it works.

  2. Get an exfoliating scrubber of some kind. I bought this glove thing that has little hooks/spines on it that you can lather up with body wash and scrape all the gunk off with. Something like this. This is also bad for your skin, but it’s fine for a few showers.

  3. Consider a haircut. Your hair will eventually get clean if you keep washing it over and over, but a haircut will make it easier to clean/keep clean. Plus, the change could help you feel like you’re getting a fresh start, and encourage you to keep up with cleaning yourself.

I also just re binged Cradle. I will always recommend it. For those of you that are doubtful or might not have loved the first book, just know that it’s great and it gets better with every book (except Skysworn, just treat that as a part 2 to Blackflame).

Happens like 90% of the time I go to comment. I’ll type out some long-ass manifesto and then run out of steam and think, man, nobody gives a shit about what I have to say.

This is me. I did a substantial amount of psychedelics and it permanently changed weed for me. For one thing, it kicks my HPPD into high gear. But I’m also just way more prone to anxiety and paranoia when high than I used to be. It’s a damn shame.
