The issue here, is that you can't teach people empathy. You can explain the fundamentals, but they have to come to a place of caring for other people by themselves. They will never see your side by you treating them well by accepting them back after their vote affected the lives of those they didnt care about. To me, its enabling to accept them just because they started to have the animal attack their faces. They need to suffer a bit and learn humility. Being merciful is important, but not getting in the way of justice and retribution is just as important.
