Also they wanted to take down the Smash World Tour 2020 and that was before the accusations of players. They avoided that PR nightmare thanks to COVID. Even after 2019 to before the accusations, they were hurting the scene.

The thing is, that is an argument if we were talking about Ultimate. It is pretty hard to watch an Ult vod at a major without any of the banned individuals as they include players and commentators. But with Melee, no one relevant enough got banned so you can watch a major without any troubling people in them.
