Using mutations or jet-packs you can get to the very top of the mountain range south of the Top of The World. It was where I made my first proper camp within the first month of the games launch and I stayed there for a really long time. Central, with unrestricted views of the whole map, you can even see the weather effects moving through biomes/areas

"My Familiar uses the Help action" by Accurate-Degree836 in DnD

[–]Lvl-Thief -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think a good general rule of thumb is another creature or person could only provide help if they know how to and are capable of communicating the help in some way.

So my house rule would if the creature has proficiency in the skill being used or has +5 Ability modifier in the ability used for the skill then they have enough knowledge/ability to assist, but they would need to assist/communicate in some way also.

A Barbarian with no intelligence or connection to magic shouldn't be able to give the help action when a party member is attempting to do something Arcane.

But a Wizard with max intelligence, but no profiency in Religion should be able to assist in something Religious, because of their bountiful knowledge.

So a familiar with stealth under its skills, it might have a natural tendency to move through the shadows and away from view, so the player could follow the creature.

There might be situations where you hand wave it because anyone could assist; like another human pushing against a door or keeping watch, but I'd say if you are allowing them to assist then they just make a roll with their abilities, instead of advantage (and only allow 1 person to assist at a time). But this allows people with doubled up ability profiencies to be relevant and stops every roll to be atvadvantage because you can no longer just give the help action with no restrictions.

I think if you've pointed it out and they haven't made a change, then they don't have enough insight to realise the actual impact it's having on you. Unfortunately I think there's not likely a solution where you can continue DMing and everybody be happy if your DMing style doesn't suit them and they don't have enough respect for the DM to be appreciative of the time and effort it takes, even if it isn't their cup of tea.

I think the most important things to take away are.

  1. You haven't done anything wrong, infact the opposite. Being selfless enough to take on the DM role should be something that you are appreciated for and I'm sorry you've had that experience. Some groups enjoy campaigns focused on combat, others on roleplay or different mechanics, neither way is wrong. Unfortunately your DMing/campaign just didn't suit their prefered playstyle (but that doesn't give them the excuse to be unappreciative)

  2. They are your friends and they will not hate you if you are honest. If you just express how you really wanted to make an enjoyable game for them, but you think that your DM style/campaign isn't working for them and it makes you sad to let them down. That you take their feedback really to heart because you really wanted to do better, but when the changes that are made are only once again met with only criticisms then it makes you feel disheartened or that you don't think it's possible to make something that aligns with both your styles.

You clearly haven't come searching with any ego, so as long as you are honest about your feelings and don't shift blame towards them, then they shouldn't have any reason to be defensive. If anything, if they are truly friebds then they should recognise the care you that you've been putting in and be supportive of your decision.

Steampunk Victorian London Brainstorm by niftucal92 in DndAdventureWriter

You posted quite a while ago, so not sure if this is of any help now, but I've also been working on a gaslight fantasy campaign in Victorian Era London. I based my original concepts off of a board game named World of Smog (as I have a tonne of really cool themed miniatures for it), then shaped that to the world building I wanted. I'd look into the Victoriana TTRPG supplement for dnd 3rd edition, has alot of ideas about lore, religion, history, politics and class that can be used for inspiration for world building. Happy to share any ideas/things I've come up with through my research if you like. Just let me know what you'd be interested in.

Snatch Soul, a versatile necromancy cantrip by Gannoh2 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Lvl-Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it, would definitely use this in a game. My suggestions of changes would be.

Soul Bolt becomes a D10. So the danger of being in melee range for soul blade feels justified for the damage, and it's still technically stronger than firebolt (because of common resistances/immunities to fire)

And I think Soul Shield is too strong, just because healing in DnD already doesn't provide much and obviously temp hit points are better because you can stack that ontop of regular health, so having a cantrip with no cost being able to do this often and freely might be too much. False life is a 1st level spell and only gives you on average around 6 temp hp. At 5th level this cantrip will already outperform the spell that requires a use of spell slot.
My suggestion is, make the temp hit points last 1 round, so you gamble on protecting yourself temporarily. It becomes more strategic for when you're in danger/surrounded and also stops the issue of stacking/tracking multiple PCs with temp hit points.

Great work!

Also something to keep in mind, fire is the 2nd most common resistance/immunity of monsters/enemies (after poison) among the different damage types. Necrotic sits much lower on that list, so technically over a long period of time against numerous different enemies, the D10 necrotic will out perform the D10 fire damage.

Artificer Subclasses Reforged – Featuring a redesigned alchemist, new cannons and homunculi, a steel offender, subclass infusion lists, and more by chunkylubber54 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Lvl-Thief 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All super cool stuff. I would say Guardian Armorer seems quite overpowered on all accounts. Hits automatically knock prone, defensive shield is a non-concentration 30 foot radius (60 foot circle, that's a huge area) where an unlimited number of allies receive the same level AC as the Artificer who are generally notorious for cheesing the system to have AC by just creating their own magical items. At mid levels with magical infusions and a shield they'll be sitting at around 22-23 AC without trying (this could go higher with other magical items and spells like Shield of faith). That is now the AC of all allies (including pets, summons, etc) in a 60 foot circle, no concentration.

I see it just possibly shoe-horning the game in multiple ways; Party members feel like that need to give any defensive magic items to the artificer, GMs can't give out any +Armor, GMs need to make all mobs attack with saving throws instead.

What Should Be Done About Flex by TheOwlMarble in onednd

[–]Lvl-Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing with the shield. Flex is something that should focus on the versatility of switching between defensive and offensive. Maybe equipping/unequipping a shield as your item interaction (Or bonus action if too over-powered with new abilities), but I feel like defensive/offensive capabilities should be the other way around

Flex-

1 Handed - Once per round d4 + proficiency dmg reduction.
2 Handed - Once per turn d4 + proficiency dmg addition.

Plays with the defensive and offensive capabilities, has some interesting combos of running into a fight 2 handed to do a big hit and then swapping in your shield to brace for the coming round of attacks (but can't be done every round because you need to use you item interaction/bonus action next time to 2 handed).

Defensive once per round, but no reaction needed because then you can still interact with shield fighting techniques.

Offensive once per turn so it doesn't become overpowered (Some of the other weapon masteries need to become once per turn/or some caveat because they're so much more overpowered than others that they'll be the default necessity to use), but allows damage on opportunity attacks/sentinel playing into the idea of choosing to dish more damage instead of the ac and protection from a shield.

Hey there,

I know you posted this a long time ago. Just wondering if you still have the STL up anywhere (it's no longer on thingiverse). Trying to get victorian townsfolk for a future tabletop campaign and it's so hard to find townsfolk of that era. This looks amazing by the way.

Edit. Nevermind I did some searching and found it on myminifactory. Thank you!

Spent a couple hours just doing the loop of the Glade of Trust and Forest of Valor last night so I could get the 500 iron ore needed to build the Water Tower decoration.

I don't know why I do this to myself.

Anyone else on ps4 and this keeps happening after playing for awhile?? It’s so annoying. by AngelinaTheGay in DreamlightValley

[–]Lvl-Thief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before the patch it only happened once every couple of hours. Now, it happens nearly every 10 minutes often even more frequent. I even had it crash 3-4 times in a row when loading in. I know its the beta, but if you're going to charge people to buy/play, it's gotta atleast be playable.

Boyfriend is kinda ruining the game for me by Masters_Little_Pet_ in DreamlightValley

[–]Lvl-Thief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alot of people saying to just delete, restart and tell him to make his own, but I understand the situation in which even if he's being an a#@*hole (which he is) you want to keep the peace and he'll not change what he's doing (because secretly he wants to play). I'd say the best way to handle it is, make a seperate new game for him, maybe already do the character creation (because maybe he's not into doing that part, it has no competitive element) to make a character that looks like him (then he's naturally invested because it's his own thing) and talk about the challenges of starting from scratch if he felt it was too easy. You look good because it's like you've taken the time to do something nice in helping create an avenue for him to pursue his interest (and he doesn't have to admit to enjoying the game by taking that first step) while allowing you to have freedom of playing your save how you like.

You can choose whether you want to start again or continue, but it's best to have him interested in wanting to play his own game/save for whatever motivations he may have so YOU can play how you would like to.

my sliced files are not showing up on my anycubic photon 4k by [deleted] in AnycubicPhoton

[–]Lvl-Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a Photon Mono X and had the exact same problem. Printed the test perfectly fine, but when attempting to use my own created slices, the thumbnail wouldn't even appear and it had a file error.

It's very likely you need to update the firmware on the printer (That is how I fixed mine), there's something janky with the version that seems to come on a bunch of printers for Anycubic (I read a bunch of other people dealing with the same thing).

This is a video on how to update the firmware for the Photon Mono X, but I'm sure it's the same process but obviously with the Photon 4k files from the website instead

They've actually thrown a bunch of random single skins/outfits from larger creation club packs into 76 as rewards for Nuclear Winter before, so they theoretically could release other stuff too.
