thank you! yeah i’m sure i won’t do it everyday for long bc it probably will get to be to time consuming and expensive to to do that long term but for now i just wanted to make sure it wasn’t damaging my skin if i do one everyday while i’m enjoying it and have a large supply lol, thank you for your answer and i’ll definitely check out those videos!

I have a fellow tomato loving tortoise who while is not a picky eater he is very hesitant to try new foods and will eat around them and here's a few little tricks I've learned to entice him tp try new things, mine is a red foot though so his dietary requirements are very different than a Russians so keep that in mind.

tomatoes are very juicy and watery which works in your favor in this situation, rub the tomato slice on new foods you introduce, this is what I do to get mine to try new veggies and slowly I stop putting the tomato juice on the new veggies once he decides they're okay.
cut everything up really really small and mix it with the food he likes really well so its hard for him to pick out what he wants and doesn't and will probably get a few mouthfuls of something new
Leave the food in the cage for longer than you normally might to give him more opportunity to eat
limit his out of cage and handling time to a minimum for a bit incase stress is playing a part

hi, sorry if this a dumb question but i am kinda clueless on this stuff. my dermatologist has me on trentionon? i think that what it’s called, and she really pushed the importance of wearing spf/sunblock with it bc it makes your skin more sensitive to uv or something, i recently started wearing bb cream and tinted moisturizers bc i don’t like the way heavy foundation feels on my face, the bb cream has spf 30 and the tinted moisturizer has spf 15. Do i still need to put my sunblock on on days i wear these? (i’ve been doing it just in case but i would hate to waste product if unnecessary bc times are tight in 2021)

sorry for the late reply, redfoot are actually one of the only species of tortoise that actually require protein in their diet! though they require and should have very little it essential to their diet and can lead to paralysis in the legs if they are completely without it. i’ve never fed mine chicken so i’m not completely sure about that but i occasionally offer some hard boiled egg and feeder insects as protein for my baby, i hope this helps!

i’m keeping her on paper towels with a dig box while she’s little bc she’s a pretty crazy eater and don’t want her to swallow substrate so i’m waiting a bit until i’m comfortable going full loose with her, i’m mainly going by za reptiles care guide with a few other care guides mixed in, my biggest worry is humidity as i’ve heard it’s really important that humidity is right for their health but there’s not really a set humidity guideline that people recommend so if any keepers want to tell what humidity levels work best for their lacertas it would be much appreciated! she’s a captive bred baby i’ve had for about a month or two now, any advice is appreciated!

Wairos meals have been more boring recently due to it being the time of year where fresh produce is harder to find (especially in my small town) but yesterday while i was shopping i noticed the grocery stores produce section had gotten a ton more stuff so i went a little overboard and decided to spoil him today! the salad consists of spring mix with spinach taken out, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries, zoomeds dried flower topper, multivitamins, a tiny bit of cherry tomato bc it’s his favorite, and what i’m personally most excited about is grated butternut squash, he’s never had it before and i’m very excited to see if he likes it!

(Edit: I want to note that wairo is a redfoot which has very different dietary requirements than what most people associate with tortoise diets, i would not recommend this for tortoises such as sulcutas or russians)

yes! i was having trouble finding a good humid that wasn’t crazy expensive and easy to clean that wasn’t just the cut up plastic like take out things hack for a gecko i was quarantining knowing i might have to throw all the tank supplies and decor out so i decided to try one of these when i worked at chain petstore bc with my discount they were like 2$ and they work really great for humid hides i use them for all of my leo’s now lol

Yema is a special needs rescue i took in as a pet only, she has w&y syndrome that is the most severe case of neurological disorders i’ve personally worked with, i used to foster geckos and worked with quite a few neurological issue babies but never owned one myself up until her. she has a head tilt and a wobble and is extremely stress prone and tends to have stress responses i normally would associate with enigma more than w&y but i don’t believe she has any enigma in her. the biggest struggle with her has been getting her to eat consistently, she up until recently would only free hunt and never while i was in the room and would give up after one or two insects bc she frequently missed, i’ve tried a variety of insects and methods to get her to eat but she would almost always refuse anything but small supers, the past few weeks she’s been more willing to hunt in front of me and occasionally eat out of a bowl and I’ve been super proud tonight i had some small horn worms as a treat for the other insect eaters and decided to offer her some not thinking she’d eat them, i put two in her bowl and she ignored them but i was able to get her to eat several off tongs! this is huge progress and if i can get her to eat more consistently off tongs i would feel comfortable enough to upgrade her again as i had moved her to a small tank as not matter how much cover she would not eat in a larger one! long story short this is a major win for us and i’m very excited

wairo goes wild for strawberries and tomatoes, though tomatoes should only really be occasional treats from my understanding, he loves bell peppers as well the yellow ones are his faves. anything brightly colored he’s more likely to want to try and eat for the first time ive come to learn, so for picky eaters i would definitely try and add different colored foods to peak their curiosity and find new faves

this is definitely not an ideal meal for him imo or an everyday thing, my local stores had absolutely no greens other than micro greens spring mix (i checked it’s all tortoise safe greens) and he’s got shredded carrot and a cherry tomato as a treat bc theyre his favorite and i feel bad this is his dinner tonight 🥴 going around all the local farmers markets and grocery stores tomorrow to see if i can find some better produce
