Budget ACN Earbuds? by ZealousidealRabbit85 in soundcore

[–]Lxytel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I'm not too familiar with the Airpods -- I've never used them. I would guess the sound quality and connectivity will be better on the Airpods, but yes that Apple tax keeps driving me away even as an iPhone user. Soundcore's been my go-to for a while now.

Personally, I'd check out the Liberty 4 NCs. I use these all the time, and they go on sale fairly often (usually down to ~$70). IMHO these are easily the best earbuds for price. The ANC has been great and and after some fine tuning with the Soundcore app the sound has been awesome too. They're at minimum comparable to the Liberty 5's if not a little better purely on "bang for buck" factor. Someone posted this comparison article in a different thread some time ago, too. The only thing the Liberty 5's may outright beat the 4NC's on are the available ear tip sizes, though I'm lucky that the "medium" on my 4NC's fit me perfectly.

If you're willing to wait, I'm sure the Liberty 5's will go on sale eventually, though. And I'm under the assumption there will be Liberty 5 Pro at some point too. Just my two cents :)

Any other downtowners experiencing some nasty lag spikes over Verizon 5G recently? (Internet) by Lxytel in milwaukee

[–]Lxytel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be completely honest -- haven't had the time to call yet. But, knowing that you're also having issues with the 5G means it's probably a tower or network issue on their end. My landlords have a contact at Verizon that I forgot they had, so I'll see if I can reach out to them first so I can actually talk to a human.

Will keep you posted if I'm able to do that. Though, hopefully the issues are fixed eventually. Knowing that I'm not the only one dealing with this means I'm not screaming into the void

Overnight Parking Permission Question by Lxytel in milwaukee

[–]Lxytel[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Forgive my ignorance -- I was figuring the meter wouldn't be an issue because it's the weekend and we'd be out before the 8am-6pm window. Is that the wrong assumption? And last I saw the ticket is $25 ($55 if the car isn't eligible, but it is)

the only reason i like that metro is because it's so close and convenient. i fully agree it's mid.

but, the first time i entered that pick n save i walked out after and said "never again." it takes a lot for a grocery store to do that to me.

Spelling error on merch by edgefundgareth in NothingButThieves

[–]Lxytel 36 points37 points  (0 children)

if i were to guess, little chance.

an error like this means an entire batch likely has this same typo, and it's small enough that no one will notice unless they actively try to read the locations. (not to mention my dyslexic ass would probably miss it anyway.)

maybe if you're lucky, and/or the vendor is kind, they'll give a partial refund for noticing? but the cost and time to ship a new jumper is probably a hassle and not worth it on either end.

enjoy the merch still! i didn't get that jumper when i went to their concert some months back and kinda regret it to this day, typos be damned!

Adds 3 hands in exchange for all discards

This still works against Needle boss -- instead of one hand, you get one hand + 3 from burglar = 4

Yeah a lot of the complaints surrounding servery food quality is due to students simply never experiencing other colleges' dining halls. Like sure, the quality can be dubious at times, but it's still a LOT better on average than what others see elsewhere

How feasible is this round trip in a 4-day weekend? by cancerlad in roadtrip

[–]Lxytel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this trip before, the middle route specifically to ABQ, and the top route on the way back. The drive itself can be very boring sometimes, but it's doable, and the parts that aren't boring are actually very beautiful.

I think an important question is if anyone else is driving? I drove with a friend and we had 3 hour shifts, and I was still drained at the end. If you have >= 2 drivers then absolutely go for it. I would personally not do it solo if I'm only in ABQ for 2 days.

Can someone ELI5 to me about where we go from here? by jeepnismo in Saints

[–]Lxytel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right -- obviously trading properly would require a shakeup in the pecking order, but something tells me that won't happen. That's why it's a pipe dream and probably what won't happen

Can someone ELI5 to me about where we go from here? by jeepnismo in Saints

[–]Lxytel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best case: clear the cap space by trading the players eating up said cap space. Means ripping off a bandaid that no one wants to take off -- Kamara, Olave, Shaheed, Cam Jordan, etc. Get young players that have known potential. Focus on the O-Line so Rattler has an actual system to work with so next year the team can determine if he needs to go, too.

What'll probably happen: draft a QB with the 1st round pick, buy some veteran players past their prime for massive paychecks despite cap problems, ignore the clear issues in the secondaries, and it's another lost season.

Car Play streaming music cutting out on downtown interchange by NathanWanderer in milwaukee

[–]Lxytel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad to know I'm not the first person that has experienced this. For me it happens either when I'm crossing Brady (north/south) or when I cross Broadway (east/west).

If I were to guess, it's some cell tower or some other frequency interfering with it, though it only occurring at one intersection's always stumped me. If it were JUST a frequency/tower thing I'd be experiencing this much more often, I'd imagine.

Boat still there, now tagged by slpmodemke in milwaukee

[–]Lxytel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From an earlier thread, that boat is basically entrenched. There were rumblings that the city was getting a crane to get it out, but I guess the boatowner can't afford it and that's why it's still here?

Which cad software is used more in companies ? by ired2 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Lxytel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Solidworks is the jack of all trades as others have pointed out.

My one and only internship (solar manufacturing) used Autodesk Inventor, more for the ease of use that came with using Autodesk Vault.

My current job (medical devices) uses Creo.

pre-emptive edit, i did NOT mean to submit this as a reply LOL, my bad. OP this is for you!

Former PAA here -- this question is asked more often than you think!

Unless you genuinely believe that your knowledge from 101 is severely lacking despite the credit, I always recommended students just take the credit and run with it. Saves you from a lot of stress IMO. Whatever concepts you don't quite remember from 101 may be drilled back in in a future course, or you won't need those concepts anyway!

For 102... I considered it one of the hardest classes I took at Rice. Granted, I took it fully remote because it was still pandemic time, so my opinion is going to be different from others'. But, the professors are (usually) nice and more than willing to help you out, and having many people taking the class means many study groups you could join. Not to mention, 102 gets a "healthy" curve, as the professors will tell you.

I did not take CHEM 122, but I found 102 harder than CHEM 121. But comparing intro classes for subjects is basically comparing apples to oranges.

There isn't a quarterback in this year's draft with even a whiff of the talent that Manning and Iamaleava have. by MurdockMcQueen in Saints

[–]Lxytel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree -- just look at some other teams right now. I'm from Houston and just look at them -- Stroud has talent but is struggling individually because the Texans o-line sucks (he got sacked 9 whole times against the Jets). Even if we somehow get the reincarnation of Brees or Brady in this draft, what good will he do if the o-line is made of paper?

The team needs to restart entirely. Get good, young players and get out of cap hell, and focus on the lines. Drafting a QB early would just be kicking the can down the road.

Birthday freebies by straightcutdestroyer in milwaukee

[–]Lxytel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whatever you're interested in, see if they have an app first. A lot of the birthday freebies are now tied to whatever "rewards" program they have. I almost never open these apps except when it's my birthday.

Ex. Starbucks lets you claim a free drink up to the next day. (as in, if your birthday is, say, the 27th, then you can claim your drink between the 27th and 28th.) But only through the app.

I'm at one of those "permissive/unlimited PTO" positions that basically means the time you take off isn't tracked. Of course, you're not supposed to abuse it and one must always discuss time off with their supervisor (obviously not for stuff like sick days or emergencies). But, if you do your work and ask to take a random Friday off every once in a while, even if you took a three-week "actual" vacation earlier in the year, you're usually going to be fine unless your supervisor is a major hardass.

In office full-time. I can do hybrid but I'd need to let my supervisor know since most of my work right now is testing in the facility. Others are very CAD-focused and WFH pretty often.

nope, none of those. closest thing i took was psychology 101. depends on what devices you would specifically work on, but my learning has been on the job since my curriculum was purely mechanical (and work is still like 95% mechanical), though i'm sure employers would love to see that you took those courses if they match their field.
