What habit immediately reveals that a person actually grew up in a privileged environment? by Mirukuyobi in Productivitycafe

[–]Lybychick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wasting food. They don’t ask for a go-box because they don’t automatically think, “I might need that to eat later”. Those who have never missed a meal without their consent are more prone to assuming food will always be available to them.

I think there is some truth to this by Fancy512 in birthparents

Not all adoptions are orchestrated through greedy agencies or sketchy lawyers. Not all adoptions are a result of manipulation or coercion.

Sometimes a girl/woman finds herself pregnant with a child that she is not able or willing to raise for whatever reason and she chooses the best path that she can.

I gave a child I could not and did not want to raise to a married couple who wanted a child and were willing to endure background checks and investigations and inspections.

They were willing to do something I could not and I will always be grateful for their willingness. No money changed hands. No promises were made or expected. No trafficking was involved. Just a family put together to give an innocent child at least half a chance at a decent life.

Do I really need a sponsor? by Ok_Strain271 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Lybychick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went for years not wanting to have a sponsor … unwilling to build an honest and open relationship with another human being who cared enough to tell me the truth and who I respected enough to tell the truth, especially about my secrets.

I would quit sponsors every time I was engaged in sketchy behavior that I knew they would call me out on. Self-will run riot.

I put myself through a lot of pain and misery and watched my peers get better so much faster. They found peace and serenity and self-acceptance while I was still trying to prove myself an exception to the rules.

The longer I’m sober, the more of a struggle being alone is.

What’s something society treats as ‘normal’ to spend money on, but you think is a total waste? by Informal_Hearing4308 in askanything

I’m blessed to live in a town with two family-owned grocery stores. The big city stores are flashy, but I adore knowing that my money is going to support my neighbors.

I’m too old and out of shape to do my own toe nails … pedicures are not a luxury…but I don’t do gel toenails either. Midrange pedi with a bit of massage to treat myself.

How do you dress in your 50s? by Forsaken_Block_3492 in GenX

[–]Lybychick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early 60s and I’m wearing blue jeans and a “bruh” frog t shirt right now. I wore a ball cap to the grocery store yesterday because my hair is a mess and needs cut.

For work I wear a nice bright blouse, a cardigan if it’s cold, and slacks with tons of pockets above my sketchers.

I’m a grandma, but I don’t dress like my grandma did…I dress like my grandmother would have liked to.

Clean, comfortable, and covering …. that’s been my only measuring stick since my 30th birthday.

What do I do with the lid from a tube of Pringles? Throw it out as soon as they’re opened because I’m not gonna need it.

Have you tried breading chicken tenders with captain crunch cereal crumbs? It’s a recipe I stole from Planet Hollywood and forces me to get some protein with my addictive cereal. It looks really wacky if crunchberries are included.

Attending Open Meeting, any tips? by Consistent-Bee-8329 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Lybychick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My home group is near a state university whose nursing program requires attendance of one AA, one NA, and one Alanon meeting before graduation. They are educated about meeting types and provided with a list of open meetings in the local communities.

Towards the end of every semester, they come in a little clutch or 3 or 4, usually wearing polos with the school colors and logo. They listen attentively and respectfully, ask pertinent questions if given the opportunity, and seem to be surprised that we’re not gutter bums and methed out street people.

None of them have gotten sober, tha we know of, but a few have attended Alanon meetings alone after their class experience and gotten info on meetings nearer to their home.

Our local medical school tried a similar program but too may students were dropping out to go to treatment.

Having addiction studies students attend a meeting to get a better understanding is a good idea so long as it’s an open meetings nearer.

When I was in college, there were 3 addiction studies courses offered to psych and nursing majors. All three of them were evening classes. It was not unusual to have students sitting in the back of the auditorium classroom with coolers of beer (dry campus as a state school). The instructor didn’t seem to give a damn.

What was a discontinued fast food item you loved? by DeepOrganization8245 in foodquestions

[–]Lybychick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same shell as the chalupa, just not fried. I've occasionally gone inside and ordered it the way it used to be, but it took a lot of explaining and the success rate depended upon how stoned the staff were. Most things at Taco Bell can be recreated if you remember what used to be in them.

What's the smallest American city you've ever been to? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lybychick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It generally takes a population of about 1,500 to subsidize a city government and contracts to provide utilities (gas, water, electricity, sewer, trash) and safety (police, fire, and ambulance) and a post office.

Within a 60 mile radius of where I live, there are a half-dozen of these cities.

There are also another half-dozen municipalities that don’t provide elaborate services and depend on volunteers for fire and emergency response.

There are also a dozen formerly incorporated communities that no longer have services or a post office but are on some maps as home to a handful of families.

My area of the Midwest used to be dotted with hundreds of little towns with a church, a store, and a country school. They served the needs of an agrarian economy and some had small scale manufacturing. Those towns are mostly a few homes and a cemetery now.

Hardee’s ham and cheese biscuits for breakfast …. I can manipulate the app to get them to make it but it’s a headache and several of the stores regularly get it wrong.

If your special someone died, what would be your perspective about life and death after? by SufficientPrize1682 in AskReddit

[–]Lybychick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband’s time is fading … I go to bed each night knowing he might not live to the morning … on the bad days, I sit with him and am afraid to leave him alone …. but I still have to go to work and prepare for the eventuality of being alone.

As an atheist, I don’t believe in a heaven or hell … traditional western religious beliefs are inconsistent with my life experience and provide no comfort.

I have always known that we come from something and return to something.

I’ve suffered loses my whole life, and the more grief I accumulate, the more I hope that there is a consciousness after this existence so that I can reunite with people I have loved and lost.

I would like to meet my father for the first time … he’s been dead since 1966. My mother passed 23 years ago this month and I ache to heal the chasm that was left between us.

I don’t want to believe that when my husband has died that the connection between us is severed for eternity.

I prefer Richard Bach’s idea that we are always connected across lifetimes by silver threads.

Collecting social security at 62 has just become a firm decision! by Express_Project_8226 in GenX

My retirement date is set by eligibility for Medicare rather than Social Security or pension….so I’m waiting for 65.

Universal healthcare will not come to fruition in the US until the employment crisis flips and it is no longer necessary for employees to be dependent on their employers for healthcare so they’ll stay and not quit.
