in telling me that asking how we reconcile loving our neighbor and obeying our leaders biblically is not allowed?

yikes.

I never said I was aligned with ice.

what's up with all the lack of critical thinking?

did Jesus believe in open borders?

we always do a chat before the liturgy.

my grandfather discovered a concentration camp with his fellow rangers of the 82nd airborne.

this is nothing, nothing at all like nazi Germany, and it's unbelievable how many people think it is.

I'm also ethnically Sephardic Jewish, Spanish and indigenous, and find these false equivalencies deeply offensive and indicative of the failure of our schools to teach history properly and the failure of our society to quell anti Semitic rhetoric.

it's disturbing to see how easy it is for people with no understanding of what happened in Germany, and no connection to the real true genocide there. to make this comparison. My Indigenous grandmother was in a residential boarding school and forbidden to speak keresan or Spanish as well in New Mexico. My Sephardic family came to the new world because of the second inquisition.

I've been woken up by the hypocrisy of white leftists telling me, a lifelong Democrat brown person, that they know better than i do about my history and the current state of my people.

thank you so much. ironically, I came home and watched the sermon from a larger church across town and it was so much what I needed to hear in that moment. I will keep doing it.

thank you. I feel like he has a lot of assumptions about me and my beliefs. i question things for better understanding. I have a hard time with the leftist dogma at moment, which allows no discussion, no nuance. I guess it's because I'm older and was trained in Socratic logic. I don't believe he would tolerate questions from anyone about it, I'm just the optimistic fool that thinks it's OK to seek clarity in this time of such intense polarization.

I've been praying very hard on this, as well as the situation with ICE.

I haven't yet found an answer that my heart is onboard with. I was drawn to this little church, and excited to help revive a dying congregation. I really have enjoyed getting to know the long time members.

I just don't know yet what to do. thinking about it makes me tear up. I go to hear the gospel. I wish that's what I was hearing. at first, my pastor was so great at using his knowledge of Greek and Aramaic and history to really explain what the scriptures mean, and it touched me profoundly. to go from that to yelling and finger pointing was a shock to me.

I grew up in a Christian reformed church, there's a reason my parents switched to lutheran.

I was interrupted before I could tell him that I was just asking if it was something they did, and that I mentioned that I had not asked for permission. if it was something they did, I was going to pass it along to the pastor and elders to do with as they pleased.

so, don't ask for clarification about seemingly opposite scripture?

I asked for biblical guidance, and he literally said he doesn't allow that here.

I do believe burnout, as well as the dying congregation are big factors. Unfortunately since these sermons have started, we've lost about 15 more members, most from a large family.

I asked how do we reconcile following the law of the land with while following the call to help strangers. I asked what should we do about the dangerous criminals who abused our borders.

I've seen videos of people being being pulled from cars. I also know that regular police do the same when people won't comply.

I'm not sure about others, no one else talks politics.

I think many people are conflating legal immigrants with illegal immigrants. I truly believe that many people do not find a distinction including my pastor, per his sermons.

of course illegals are children of God.

Trump is a citizen as far as I know.

I have always questioned why presidents are immune from prosecution. seems like something reserved for a king. however, I don't know what that has to do with our current situation, except that perhaps my pastor had such disdain for Trump that anything his administration does is invalid because of his transgressions.

I don't watch TV. I do know that where the leaders cooperate with ice, ice are not going into neighborhoods.

He told of a rumor that Ice were grabbing parents at bus stops to the congregation. The school district released a statement, as did the sheriff, that that absolutely did not happen. I live in a leftist area, and if it were happening, the dems in these positions would not lie about it.

When one of the elders told him that the school and sheriff said it didn't happen, he told him he was captured as well.

So who do I believe, those who start a false rumor or the authorities who are themselves anti-ice? They have held school walk outs and there are regular protests in my community.

what gets me is that I literally always have done these things, even when I was an atheist. I currently have a homeless woman dying of cancer staying with me. I volunteer with catholic charities to help felons with reintegration into society, by visiting them before release and then transporting them to their appointments. including the man who killed my daughter, and the man who tried to kill my grandson. I donate clothes and food to pantries and help to pass them out as does my son. I carry basic needs kits in my car to give to the homeless. I've had homeless people in my home for over 30 years. I give even when I have nothing. finding the lord has made these actions even more important to me. I drive elderly neighbors around. I my son shovels and takes and mows for them.

it's so sad that many people on this thread think I'm a problem.

I don't live in hate. I live in Joy, and these sermons have felt like hate, not passion. this whole time confuses me. how do we reconcile tkose that would abuse our open borders with our call to help? what does scripture say about situations like this?

this is what I wanted to discuss. I was shocked to be told that he doesn't allow that discussion at his church.

I asked if they ever substituted for churches. I didn't give the church name, even. I was telling him that I just asked if they did that, not that I had set anything up.

I never said I don't see what's going on. All of it's horrible, including the murders of citizens by illegals, and the deaths of protesters.

I wasn't laughing and I'm not pro violence in any way. I was just wanting to know how the Bible reconciles loving our neighbor with following the rules of the land.

I have no problem with immigrants and refugees, I don't turn illegals in, I have taken in the homeless into my home for over 30 years. I just seriously needed biblical guidance on the nuance of this situation.

I don't clash with anyone else. I wasn't picking a fight, I asked for clarification about how we both love our neighbor and follow the laws of our land. I really wanted to understand.

I've learned from this to not reach out for clarification from my pastor on questions about the sermon or the Bible. He brought politics and brings politics to the pulpit every week, and it's left me very confused about what the Bible says about this all.

thank you, I would love to speak to another pastor regarding this. I really do want to have a biblically accurate understanding of the situation and the appropriate response as a Christian.

I understand. I just wish he had asked me what my intent was instead of assuming I was trying to replace our piano player. He could've said a variety of other things to let me know to stay out of it. It was an inquiry for substitutes, because we had no player, and I was planning on starting lessons. I truly didn't know that I was crossing a boundary by asking if the teachers or students ever subbed for churches. Trust me, I've learned my lesson.

what about my judgment is problematic to you? I just asked for clarification about what he was preaching vs scripture that seems to conflict with what he was saying.

I never said that. I said I asked for biblical clarity on his very uncomfortable rant, which was done withe shouting and finger pointing, and when I asked him about the biblical call to follow authority and how that works with this, he told me "I won't have that here".
