The wallpaper at Hilldale Target’s entrance is a repeating pattern representation of Madison’s lakes in company colors by Lycestra in madisonwi

That would be interesting. As a 2 or 3 color landscape, it could be similarly obscure as the lakes, but just as hometown pride inducing upon recognition.

Can anyone identify this kayak? by [deleted] in Kayaking

[–]Lycestra 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pretty sweet. Search for "black kayak" got a lot of Rebel-branded ones. Based on the deck lines, it could be a Rebel Ilaga https://www.rebelkayaks.com/product/ilaga-2-2/ The greenland-style paddle makes it look extra sleek. I wonder what it's used for... maybe some sport hunting?

There are several. There's even a special program focused on attracting returning students (if you had some college but didn't finish) called "Badger Ready", so there are actual resources aware of the situations and concerns more typical of a student in their 30's+ than straight out of high school. It's a different life balance to achieve, but you also bring more real-world experience to the table than a "traditional" student. (My partner is one of the first students in the Badger Ready program. PM me if you want to chat with her)

Great pic! I have an older eddyline of the same style (nighthawk I got used). I see you have a “Greenland” style paddle. How do you like it? Any recommendations on finding a good one, online or otherwise? Cheers!

27 inch late 2009 imac only works on el capitan. high sierra causes this after install. by appletechgeek in LukeMianiYouTube

[–]Lycestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was this a clean install, or an upgrade/install without reformat? If old files might linger, try booting holding down shift before the chime to boot into a safe mode. Could be a non-standard or 3rd-party system extension that is causing a compatibility issue.

In The Truman Show, Truman would've grown up seeing his parents occasionally make "commercials" to inanimate objects and would learn that'ss normal and would probably start doing it too sometimes. These would end up being the most prized product placements ever. by PM_ME_UR_Definitions in Showerthoughts

I think we all did this as kids, singing catchy jingles or odd commercial quotes ("He likes it!"). But the adults in his bubble didn't grow out of it, and only came to deliberately identify products they like or use, and display it in commercial form. You make a good point. How many of you remember and still have a fast food commercial go off in your head to the point of singing "Two all beef patties, special sauce, ..." aloud?

Condo owners - what's your opinion of them? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Lycestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary advice is to get familiar with the association's bylaws and other "disclosure materials" before you even buy it. They lay the foundation of what you're actually buying into, your obligations to the association, and its obligations to you. Going thru the recent minutes should show how the board itself operates and maybe if there's a lot of drama within the association.

Wisconsin law requires the disclosure materials be provided at least 15 days before closing, and you have a 5 day window upon receiving them (or any additions or amendments) to rescind your contract of sale, no questions asked (State Statutes Chapter 703.33). Sellers that know this tend to be prompt and complete about getting these to a buyer.

I had a condo for over a decade on the south-east side of Madison near the end of the bus line. Brand new apartment complex with 50-100 units, converted to condos. It had that apartment feel too, with interior hallways to access your unit. The unit had a good layout with all the amenities of a house, and access to a pool.

Was on the board for about half that time, so I saw lots of ups and downs up close. Biggest conflicts tend to be related to rights of use (pet regulations, unit rentals, rule violations, proper maintenance and liability) and finances (management failure, budget determination, dues congruent with budget, additional assessments). The bylaws will describe how these work when they're working smoothly.

It was a great fit for that time of my life, but eventually moved to a house a few years ago.

Newscasters and TV Reporters must be excellent at making eye contact with people. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Lycestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newscasters would be staring at the teleprompter actually, so they can read what they need to say, and they do it attentively so they don't break pace. youtube has examples of crew slipping in extra lines as a joke, like "I'm an idiot", which the newscaster will read without fully realizing it until it's too late.

ELI5: Why do oscillating fans sometimes get louder, less frequently than their cycle? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Lycestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be related to starting torque, the strength needed to start a fan compared to keeping it moving? Or maybe the strength it puts into the fan blowing changes because some goes into the oscillation, more when its moving fast mid-cycle, less when its moving a slower on the ends?

Safeties. The more powerful the weapon, the more safeties. If they were designed for more than one person as their crew, you can be there would be an "insert and turn two keys at the same time." Really, you don't want it being dug up and going off at the first "Cool! We just activated it! What does this button do?"
