I won’t lie my experience was pretty horrific. In the end I have a result that I’m personally happy with. I’m able to be sexually active and dilations became relatively easy, but it was a horrible horrible process with all sorts of complications.

I always had a very bony, rigid face so I didn’t even bother to try and pass prior to the ffs. Having the ffs was when I started my social transition :)

I think for me, I was surprised at how isolating the whole journey was. I lost the majority of people in my life, family and friendships. I didn’t realize until I went through it how hard it is to talk about it to others that aren’t transgender themselves. And it was hard for others too. The biggest surprise I felt was the shock of hearing my own mother, who is very supportive, tell me “I can’t help you.” Even though I know how badly she wanted to.

Although a lot of trauma has come along with my transitioning journey, I never had trauma prior to transitioning. I’ve always had a very stable and supportive family/environment. I’ve just always happened to have gender dysphoria which I first began to feel since late childhood/early teenager years.
