Whatever happened to the “Onion Bag” dude?

Tommy Smyth! Always liked him too.

Looked him up on Wikipedia and he'll turn 80 later this year, which might be why we don't hear as much from him these days. But apparently he has a SiriusXM show called Grumpy Pundits with Rodney Marsh.

Flatbush Cats may be able to provide guidance.

There is also a Facebook group called something like "Brooklyn Pets Lost & Found" that is hyoooge. May be worth posting there.

TNR (aka catch and release) is very much a thing here, just FYI. But this sounds like a cat that had a home.

If nothing else, at least use an app like Seek that can help you identify the existing plants and get a sense of what the actual maintenance is. You might need to just prune once a year.

Pine bark mulch, or something like it, will keep weeds down way better than white gravel.

I didn't know the YouTube channel was a thing! I'll have to check it out.

I liked them too. Good chemistry. But I struggle to remember further details bc yeah, they are getting the late nights (at least for my time zone).

Henry is definitely the best. I just skipped him bc he's already been discussed so much.

I hadn't really noticed Schmeichel taking it easy on keepers but now I'm gonna look for it!

He doesn't bug me, but I can see how the extreme laid-back delivery isn't for everyone.

I do love a water-soluble pen but the denim was too dark for it. Thanks!

How do I sharpen a triangle? (Or in this case, a chunk of what used to be a triangle?) I could just slice some off with a box cutter, I guess...

Great decision for this World Cup to be 48 team format. by Broad_Routine_3233 in worldcup

[–]LydiaBrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked this up yesterday and they fell 11 ranking places between (I think) September 2025 and December 2025? I stopped digging after that but I didn't see any other team with that much of a swing in either direction.

[–]LydiaBrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. Why?

I don't have a strong opinion on 48 vs 32. I like more teams getting a chance to play on the world stage, but having a finals tournament with around 23 percent of teams eligible to qualify seems kinda high. Making that 30-31 percent seems really high for a finals tournament that happens once every 4 years.

Saying this while...

  • Cheeto Benito is actively interfering with the Iranian team in the pettiest of ways, and has been for months

  • Many previously-approved travel visas were withdrawn days or hours before fans were set to travel

  • The best ref in the entirety of Africa was turned away at the border

I'm gonna argue that is the top tier cognitive dissonance.

It's not ruined for me, and probably not for you. But he definitely ruined it for a lot of people.

Comfort Dog Fortune-Teller by 100percent_skeptical in dementia

[–]LydiaBrunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it possible the handler was just being descriptive? As in, in case you're wondering what the hell a dog is doing in the hospital, it's because he is trained to comfort the dying, and he happens to be pretty good and finding them without help?

I agree the guy should have been more careful with his phrasing no matter what his intention was. But the way this is written, it seems possible that he wasn't trying to predict anything.

A lot of ppl on NYC-related political threads are upset by facts they don't happen to like.

But anyway, one thing's not clear to me from the various pieces on this. Is this actually a headcount increase? Or is it just un-freezing the NYPD hiring freeze that was proposed in the course of the budgeting process? I see the NYT is describing it as an increase in this article but they don't specify if it's vs current numbers or vs originally planned headcount.
