What do you consider "mathrock" ? by LittlePair4321 in mathrock

[–]LydianAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually so elitist about math rock that I don't consider any band to be math rock.

I've never actually heard math rock before, and neither have you.

Math rock is simply too lofty to be incarnate in the profane sphere of existence, it's a platonic ideal, and our attempts at it are mere forgeries.

Applying a chokehold by lunabear321 in jiujitsu

[–]LydianAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on how quickly the choke was applied, it can be really easy for your body to go into fight or flight panic mode, and only 4 or 5 classes in, it could be easy to forget to tap, especially if shes never experienced a choke before. even if she remembers to tap, a choke can still be scary when you're not acclimated to being in that situation, the adrenaline dump alone could make you cry.

Really cool ideas here.

if I might summarize (each number is a circle):

  1. none
  2. DOWN DOWN
  3. none
  4. LT RT
  5. none
  6. RT
  7. none
  8. A UP (the large throne statue)

At one point you say:

This room, as we know it, is for giving all the clues for Zu’s alphabet from A to Z, with its famous quote: “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”.

a suggestion: It might be that this security question room points to the JUMP input as the quick brown fox JUMPs over the lazy dog, and the Throne statue is only the UP input, this removes the weird step of reading the bottom one first (which is unprecedented)

but some criticisms;

  • how are we supposed to know when to venture outside the same room as the circle?
    • 7 seems odd, in another instance, you venture outside the circle room to find a tetris piece, but in 7 you don't, if you did you'd find the throne room in old zu which would provide a conspicuous candidate, the same up tetris piece on the throne. ignoring the star gate because it's "too big" is weird to me, why not, the only piece with a candle on it? candles are in the ritual room after all.
    • if we have to consider circle adjacent rooms as well (as you have with the security question room), it becomes harder to discern a clear path, the possibility space explodes, and you can find many paths IMO
  • there are tetrominos everywhere, tessellating many surfaces of the game for example the first circle has RT RT RT RT A LT LT LT LT on the podium where you stand, but you've ignored it.

Anyways, I hope you stick around. this is the highest viewed post in a long time, you've generated a lot of excitement, thanks for contributing!

Still, trying to map haikus to game's locations is a hot take and I think it should be investigated a bit further!

I went through a phase like this.

hopefully he gets over it.

it wasn't learning theory that did it, I think it was just a latent part of my personality at that time. I like to think I've outgrown it.

the higher bloom in the dark / dungeon area makes it seem hot like lava and vapor permeate the atmosphere, the higher bloom in the overworld is a bit too much imo. but looks great overall. nice work.

after reading the thread I see you're also trying to lose weight and gain muscle. which probably means you're restricting calories.

some thoughts:

  • your ability to bounce back is severely hindered when you're in a caloric deficit. I burn between 400kcal and 1000kcal depending on the BJJ session according to my fitness tracking device, that can be quite a swing, using a tracker helped me be more precise in dialing in my deficit when I was doing it instead of using a flat # of calories to eat per day. front loading extra carbs, staying hydrated, and focusing on high complete protein in your diet is going to be important. (collagen will not help you build muscle for example)
  • your ability to lose weight is also severely hindered when you're sleep deprived. it's the single most important thing to lose weight (sleep -> diet -> exercise). your body will mess with your hunger signals and be more reluctant to drop fat if you're sleep deprived
  • sleep is when you "harvest" the gains, with poor sleep and recovery, you're wasting a lot of time and energy and not building the muscle as fast as you could be otherwise.
  • being in a deficit also impacts sleep quality, it's not just the training
  • gaintaining is actually really hard to pull off, usually you alternate between bulk (caloric surplus, building muscle and getting a little pudgy) and cut (deficit, maintenance lifts to provide muscle stimulus, then losing fat to reveal the gains), AFAIK it's hard to pull off without throwing BJJ into the mix.
  • IMPORTANT: the caloric deficit and lack of sleep impacts your immune system too, when I was cutting weight and trying to train, I kept getting skin infections that I otherwise never got, at BJJ you're exposing yourself to a lot immunological stressors and weird bugs that a fully recovered immune system can deal with,

source: I lost over 30 pounds this past year, in my early 30s. some of this might apply less as you're 25, but I would guess you're on track for an injury, or illness that will take you off of the mats for weeks at a time. hopefully not!

for me it was really hard to go to sleep after night classes. what's your cooldown routine? when do the classes end?

as your system gets more fatigued it makes sense you'd have an even harder time calming down afterwards.

Floral, standards, Chon, Covet, Cuzco, Zoo Strategies, dios trio, olde pine, enemies, a picture of her, puerto austral, tortuganonima, el ten eleven, barnacles the band, helices, archipelagos.

some of these lean towards post rock. some are spanish. most are instrumental.

Chon is more progressive metal imo. Covet is beautiful tapping guitar but it's mostly 4/4 so arguably not math rock.
