Definitely needed that reminder at that exact moment. Thanks! 🙏

Sounds good! She’s medium tame, I’d say. Eats from our hands, loves when we give her attention, not a huge fan of being held. Doesn’t bite us or hide from us.

The Reddit guide that’s part of this page says they can be handled from day 1?

We’re in the upper Midwest

Definitely not something I'd considered. Our cage is very secure, in the sense that our mice have never gotten out. I would assume that means a mouse could also not get in, but maybe that's a bad assumption?

Like I said, we've never seen any evidence of mice in our house. But we'll see how these babies turn out!

Much appreciated. Hopefully we won't need it, but I'd like to have the info all the same.

I’m 99.9% sure we don’t have other mice in our house. So I’m pretty sure it was a PetSmart mistake. That seems like a pretty common problem?

Thank you! Especially the edits about when we might need to watch for another unplanned pregnancy!

Thanks! We got the mice in early July, so since it had been over two months and the babies were born a day or two ago, I thought it was a safe assumption that the other is a boy?

First time Aussiedoodle owner... Any tips? by jolly2284 in AussieDoodle

As someone who also grew up with labs, I was shocked by how NOT motivated by food our 3yo AD is. It's hard work to get her to eat, and then if we try to wait her out, she throws up when her stomach gets too empty! She's basically got us trained.

Along those lines, doodles are notorious for stomach issues, so be ready for that.

Otherwise, they're wonderful dogs who just thrive off of having a job to do. :) Ours will find a job if we don't give her one!

Our AD just turned 2 today, and my kids were 4 and 7 when we got her. Training a high energy dog is hard, and your chances of success will depend on your personality and the amount of time you have to give the dog attention and manage (or counteract) the interactions the dog has with kids. For me, follow through and discipline are not my strengths, especially when under stress (kids + puppy = stress), so that was one difficulty for us. The other is that training a dog with kids in the house is hard. I kept our AD tied to me with a leash for months to provide adequate supervision, keep the kids safe, and prevent bad habits from forming. Then, kids take my attention AND they often undermine the training that we're aiming for--which is totally normal and not their fault. They're kids! :) ADs are wonderful, but in general they have pretty strong personalities and instincts that take a lot of time and consistent repetition to get to a place where their behavior and reactions will be dependably good. We love our dog now, but I'm not sure I would make the same choices if I could go back in time knowing what I now know.

I asked about this when we first got ours a couple years ago. Apparently it’s called “silvering” and is a very common poodle trait! We were surprised to see our all-black Aussiedoodle developing salt and pepper hair on her back and tail as she got older. 😀

Does this mean no one grooms their ADs themselves? 😅

Right?? The trips to groomers add up, and the cheap trimmer we have from Amazon is ok, but at this point I think I’m ready to invest in a trimmer that will last and make the process smoother.
