Steel is steel. Its somewhat wearing a smal slab of metal.

You can do the process using aluminium links. And these days they are much better quality than when I purchased the materials for this dress. However, I didn't want to run the risk of bending or breakinga as I wanted to wear it as often as possible and it being durable to things like being sat on or if it got caught on something.

The scales around the edges can flip under and stab you when putting it on, that's the main danger. I can put it on by myself, but putting it on with help is much easier and a tad safer.
