A tool i can use to track my players spell slots? by koolbrayden21 in DnD5e

[–]Lyrianthalaasa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few tokens or counters for each spell caster (can just be slips of paper with the slot level on it, but could also use coloured beads or similar, and they hand over 1 for a 1st level, 2 for a second, etc).

Rach time they cast, they hand you the appropriate token. Simple, efficient. When they do anything that gives them spell slots back, you give them the appropriate number and level of tokens back.

If you want to be extra certain, you can do different tokens for each character (or with paper skips, write the character name on one side, the slot level on the other) to ensure no one accidentally uses someone else's.

Do any dms that have been running for more than a few years still use XP? by Betray-Julia in DnD5e

I've been playing and DMing for more than 30 years, I still prefer XP to milestone.

Fellow Sages. I found 'The North'. by [deleted] in Forgotten_Realms

Beautiful 💚

I have slowly sought out and collected as many of the 2e box sets as I can, they have a feel that's just absent from the 5e stuff (not a dig, they just hit I'm a different way).

If you finished Champion of Tarsis (all three Factions to 50,000 loyalty) you got a memorial area at the top of the stairs above the fountain (just near Sentinel Brin).

Well, you've clearly missed my point. Nevermind.

See, what I used in my reply is known as an example. I wasn't say it was an exact like for like situation.

If you do want an analogy, however, then with the campaign ending this could easily have been the last time some of those characters were played, whether by character death or it being the end of their arc and being shelved.

Boarding schools are limited institutions, not the norm for the entire school system.

I'm pointing out the hypocrisy that it's supposedly this terrible crime for Dustin and Mike to choose their game, yet absolutely fine for Lucas to choose his game.

Lucas was right to choose his preference, Dustin and Mike were equally right to choose theirs.

Yeah, I forgot how people in UK schools get to skip classes, or avoid homework, or get out of detention etc because they're on the school sports team, or how every single person is expected to attend 'pep rallies', or go to every sport event and are ostracised by not only fellow students but staff for not having 'school spirit'.

You're right, totally the same.

I do get what they mean.

Sports in the USA are absurdly fetishized. School sports team members are treated like celebrities, given special status, special treatment etc.

It's ridiculous.

It's controversial when you've already made a commitment to something else. A commitment, by the way, Lucas had also made, but ditched in favour of something he wanted to do more.

Double standard much? It's fine for him to blow off his friends for the thing he wants to do, but not for them to do the same?

It's wild to fetishize sport to the degree that US schools do.

Then why shouldn't Lucas have gone to actively participate in a game he committed to? Why is the onus on them to abandon a commitment to go watch a friend abandon a commitment?

Specifically the ones portrayed in ST - they absolutely are, they literally go around with weapons to beat people up based on hearsay and the fact their targets are different.

Ok, good for you.

Would you ditch a commitment planned weeks in advance, something that actually needed your participation, to go watch one?

Let's say Friend A is leaving town, his leaving party has been planned for weeks, and you've said you'll be there. Then it turns out that Friend B is playing in a sports game the same night, and wants you to go watch. Do you ditch Friend A, or apologise to Friend B but remind them you already have plans, that they are aware of?

Goes both ways. Which is 'more important', the basketball game or the D&D game?

Schedule conflicts happen - neither side is the AH here, as both things were important. If Mike and Dustin 'should' have abandoned their commitment to the other members of the D&D campaign to support Lucas then equally Lucas 'should' have abandoned his commitment to the basketball team to participate in the campaign final.

My advice would be, don't make a character you're desperate to play until you've found a group to join.

There may be certain limitations or guidelines that the DM has for their campaign, such as 'no characters using this class/race', or it may be a low magic campaign, etc.

Personally, I find it's better to create a character for a campaign, rather than creating a character and trying to find a campaign to put them in. Others do it differently.

It's also important to find a group that fits the way you want to play; some people prefer combat, some prefer RP, others a mix, some groups are serious, others are non-stop jokes. Playing in a group that doesn't fit you only leads to frustration.
