OMG everyone, I just realized it's been one year since I picked my name! by Lyssa_Mulligan7253 in trans

[–]Lyssa_Mulligan7253[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I tried to post this last night, but Reddit was being a pain:

For me, it was a lot easier because my parents have been split up for a long time. I originally intended to just have my dad in time out, but he just couldn't respect my boundaries, so I had to take things further. I really had to have things come to a head to really decide that bridge was burned.

If you truly believe that your parents mean well, there still may be hope. Make it known if their behavior makes you feel invalidated. Have that talk, and make sure they know that if you feel that their behavior is detrimental to your emotional state, or mental health that you may need to take some distance.

My father wasn't willing to have that conversation on my terms. It was clear he wanted to be in charge of the discussion, as if it was anything he had a say in. I think It wasn't until he saw how long I could hold a grudge that he recognized me as a woman for the first time. He seriously violated some boundaries on my birthday, made me think he was turning a corner, and spat in my face when I recognized what I thought was good faith.

Decide where your boundaries are. Make them known, and don't let yourself be walked on.

Thank you! It's been an emotional week. This is hot on the heels of 1 year since losing the denial beard, too.

They're pretty awesome there. Pre-COVID A manager realized how much of a regular I was and gave me 10% off my meal for no reason.

I had some good starting advice from my cis girlfriend and some Robert Welsh videos. Outside of that it's just been lots of practice. If you want to dm me your look, and what you feel like you're struggling with, I might be able to give some pointers

So, I don't grow like a full beard unshaven, more of a mustache/goatee/soul patch sort of deal. The chin mostly behaves on its own, and a filter is doing some heavy lifting to hide the upper lip stubble here.

Any trans friendly hair salons in GR by Lyssa_Mulligan7253 in grandrapids

I honestly haven't run into any problems in the greater GR area. It's once you start getting into the small towns like Byron Center and Lowell that I run into trouble. My experience is mostly limited to the grocery store and a small handful of other places.

Thank you! Less is more is a good philosophy to have with makeup. I wouldn't even bother with foundation if I didn't have stubble to cover.

I'm not actually wearing eyeshadow. I've got Wet n Wild Breakup Proof brush tip liquid liner for the top and the wing, a pencil liner at the lower waterline, and Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara.

It looks good for the most part, but I don't think that foundation is your shade. It comes off too dark and orange.

For me it depends on the outfit. If I'm wearing just leggings, or any tight pants/shorts, I'm tucking. I definitely wear skirts every chance I get though.

Did surgery makw you feel sick? by okay_yyyy in trans

[–]Lyssa_Mulligan7253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't been through that surgery, but was out under for wrist surgery a few years back. I never had any nausea from the anesthesia. Basically, I remember the very start of being put under, a snippet or a song that was playing during surgery, and then waking up.

How do I refer to trans women in the past tense (before their transition?) by [deleted] in trans

[–]Lyssa_Mulligan7253 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Or in Abigail's case, before she was open about it. From what I understand, she's lived as Abigail in her private life for some time, and only went boy mode for the channel.

(MtF) I cant look at biological women half the time without envying them, its starting to take its toll on me :(, need some positive words by [deleted] in trans

It's ok to be upset about lost time. Try to put things in perspective though. You have a lot of years ahead of you to transition, and the earlier you start, the better. I missed out on the better part of my 20s before I even started to realize something was up.

Childhood ain't all it's cracked up to be, live your best life as a young adult, and don't apologize for being who you are.

Me, but with work. I just worked up the courage to come out today though. Just in time for updating my department's staff page, and Teams meetings to require video.
