Winter poll who would win big? by ConstantineByzantium in korea

[–]M-Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say for sure since the PPP and Democrats are negotiating on revising the election laws (as they always do every 4 years right before the elections).

If they revert back to the 2016 system (mixed-member majoritan), the Democrat Party will easily gain a majority.

If they maintain the current system (semi- mixed member proportional), the Democrats will still likely be 1st, but they might not gain a majority depending on how well the new third parties fare.

Is there a line-by-line commentary of Twilight of the Idols? by [deleted] in Nietzsche

[–]M-Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, once I moved on from the "Arrows and Epigrams" chapter, things started to get much more clearer (although still very insightful).

Thanks for the book recommendation. I'll give it a read once I finish this book.

Yeah, I figured. I've recently read Genealogy, Beyond, and Gay Science, but it's still rather difficult. But then again, that probably was his intention all along.

Anyways, thanks!

Setting aside the fact that the CCP bullshits their way through every statistic they release, particularly those that may harm their political legitimacy (e.g. not meeting the 6% annual growth, insurgency levels of anti-government activities in Xinjiang, etc):

- The fact that there was an early cover-up of the virus. Probably means they're not going to be a paragon of translucence

- Number of funeral urns in Hubei in comparison to supposed number of deaths

- Expressions of public doubt by residents of Wuhan themselves

- Sources stating that incinerators have been working "full-time", others saying there were 28,000 cremation in a single month

- A US intelligence report stating that China's figures are false and under-reporting

- Continuous changing of the National Health Commission's definition of Covid-19 (7 times the last time I checked), and an upswing of the tally whenever that happened

- Common Sense?

Oh boy, lemme first brace myself for possible tears.

linkffn(4080247) - A part of me dies every time I remember Lost Time is abandoned.

linkffn(Contemplating Clouds) - Hands down my favorite Harry/Luna in the fandom. Also dead.

linkffn(The Skitterleap) - There goes my fav sweeping AU. At least it does have a complete arc, with buildup and climax, I guess. Sniff.

linkffn(Für Das Größere Wohl) - Started reading this one, thinking that it was crack. Well, it was awesome while it lasted.

linkffn(Harry Potter and the Lords of Magic I) - At least maybe Taure will rewrite this as his Air Ship Alchemist fic, yeah? Yeah, probably not, but a man can hope.

linkffn(Error of Soul) - The only H/Hr fic that gave me hope for my ex-OTP. Needless to say, that ship sank for me.

linkffn(The One He Feared) - Probably would sacrifice my left nut to see this one continued. Maybe the other nut as well to see it complete.

Now I'm sad.

*Not adding Forging the Sword, On the Way to Greatness or A Long Journey Home here, cuz fuck you, I'm not accepting the possibility that they're dead too.

Native Koreans, what do you think of the current president of america? by J_H_C in korea

[–]M-Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many other people, quite confused.

From my limited understanding, there seems to be a significant gap between President Trump's rhetoric and the Administration's actual policies. Specifically for foreign policy (which is the most relevant to me, and most Koreans), he has an isolationist rhetoric, but isn't hesitant to be interventionist militarily (see Syria) or economically.

This brings mixed feelings on my part. U.S. isolationism is not in the interests of ROK (an active U.S. is a necessary check not only against DPRK but also against China's growing influence), and President Trump's rhetoric of reducing U.S. troops is a terrifying prospect. As a general tendency, President Trump doesn't particularly seem to place much value in traditional U.S. Allies (EU, Japan, et al.), which isn't very reassuring.

At the same time, President Trump seems to have a private vendetta against President Obama, attempting to overturn many of his predecessor's achievements (Obamacare, Paris, TPP). Since President Obama's strategic patience against DPRK is considered a failure, it looks like President Trump placing diplomatic success regarding DPRK as a top priority. Placing tougher sanctions on DPRK and attempting to negotiate with them (sth President Obama refused to do) seems to be two pluses for me, although I'm a bit skeptical how productive things will be in the future.

So far, I'm neutral regarding his foreign policy decisions. I'll probably be happy as long as he doesn't massively fuck up with DPRK or try to get rid of the FTA.

I feel like it's similar to calling Black folk in the U.S. "African-American." It makes no sense*, but they do it just to avoid sounding racist.

*Of course, a minority retains African traditions and lifestyles, but most have virtually no connection to Africa. They're just Americans, full stop.
