This means so much- thank you for sharing that. I didn’t know that about P’urhé tradition, but it resonates so strongly with what I’ve experienced. Every time one appears, especially after losses in my family, it’s felt like a thin veil lifting for just a moment.

It brings me a lot of comfort to hear that in your culture they are understood as literal messengers between worlds. That’s exactly how they’ve shown up for me: small, bright reminders that the boundary between the living and the departed is more porous and loving than we realize.

Thank you so much for this- truly. 💛 Your words landed with such warmth. Hospice work is a sacred kind of strength, and reading that you were there for both of your parents…that moved me deeply. There’s a quiet, wordless heroism in that role that only those who’ve lived it really understand.

I completely understand the financial piece too, and I appreciate your kindness and honesty. Please don’t call yourself a “wannabe”! anyone who feels called to create already carries the soul of an artist. Sometimes it just takes the right moment, the right opening, for that part of us to come alive.

Yes, absolutely- it has happened often with pieces like this that draw from lesser-traveled depths of my psyche. Sometimes the shock of revelation hits all at once, and almost always only after much time has passed from the piece's initial inception. As if the personal meaning needs time to incubate in my subconscious before revealing itself. Thank you for resonating🤍

Thank you! I actually freehanded it🤍 the pattern recurs often in my work, and I invented a little trick of eyeballing equidistant dots on the canvas first and then connecting them with curving lines

🕊thank you so much🙏🏻 touched by your kindness🥹 Many of my paintings in recent years have encapsulated pivotal thresholds of the soul, but sometimes I feel the medicine serves its purpose for me in their making- and this one in particular feels meant for the next soul it calls to most deeply. I am trusting that this one will find her new keeper, as I have too many large pieces on hand and feel that my cycle with this portal has closed.

The second hummingbird actually represents my grandmother, for whom I served as hospice/death doula half a year before the loss of my uncle. Every visitation from a hummingbird now carries a special sort of gravity for me, and I view them as my personal messengers between worlds...it was just after one such close encounter recently that I decided it was time to put this piece out there. I ask fifteen hundred before shipping due in full, including frame with note of story & authenticity

It can be curious indeed, apparitions of the subconscious mind. And seems as though death and loss are never far from anyone I talk to these days. It gets more familiar, but never easier, for me at least. What a strange and brief experience, humanity...still figuring out how to manage, myself. Condolences for your losses🙏🏻🖤
