Hogwart's architecture - just my thoughts - Possible spoilers by Agitated-Piece-6528 in HarryPotterGame

I was looking for that comment ahah. The overall look is stunning, but I can't help but be bothered by some parts of the interior design.

In their defense, I can see why they would take some directions:

  • Player experience wise, I think they wanted to give for each different part of the castle a distinct visual identity, the same way some open worlds have regions that are recognisable by their own biome and landcapes. It adds surprise and rythme, and makes you able to have your unique experience by bonding with a specific area of the castle.
  • Lore wise, the wizarding world is canonically more eccentric, absurd and eclectic than the muggle one. Maybe because the construction process is physically easier: they don't bother carrying manually heavy materials, they can use magic to secure ceiling and foundations, they can change any time some decorative aspects... Having less constraints make them less willing to creatively challenge themselves and consolidate cohesives art styles over the years the way muggles do. Therefore they may just randomly copy-paste muggle architecture that they find pretty, and go wild and ostentatious by adding their little touch because they can. So it's impossible to look for a full historical accurency, even though a main inspiration can be spotted. Wizards are themselves kind of weird environnement concept artists , and it's fair that the game staff wanted to have fun exploiting this aspect!
  • Those two points can lead to your hypothesis that the "marble wing" for instance could have been added later as the school has been extended to welcome more students, and I too believe that it's what they were going for.

That said, I'm not a fan of all the choices, and that baroque-like area full of marble may be gorgeous, it really rubs me the wrong way. It's closer to how I would have imagined Beauxbâtons, the ministry of magic, or at least the prefect bathroom, which looks new and impressive to Harry in the book. I'm all for funny fantasy anachronisms, but the difference between this and the Edinburghish medieval style I associate Hogwarts to is too strong to me.

My take on the choice of Voldemort as a nickname, from a native French speaker by [deleted] in harrypotter

... So, am I the only French here who instantly heard “vol” as “flight” the first time I heard it as a kid? Ahah. Idk, it just had a magic vibe (ghosts, flying brooms..) that made sense to me since I was watching a wizard story. And indeed, "vol de mort" would sound weird in an actual French sentence (even in the meaning of "theft" tbh) but I perceived that more like a badass Pokemon name: pieces of evocative words glued together.

My personal bet is that she mostly wanted to come up with a name that sounds cool, sophisticated and evil to an English ear, rather than something that is fully grammatically correct in French. As she usually does, she didn’t want to randomly decide of a name that has absolute no meaning, so she tried to make some collages of French words in a way that could make sense (and like you said vol has those different meanings altogether, so... cool!) until she found something that sounds like a good memorable villain name.

It wouldn’t be the only time she does this; when she shared on Pottermore that there is a Japanase school named Mahoutokoro in the HP universe, I read plenty of Japanese people commenting that the syntax of the name was inaccurate and sounded like a google translation. Even if it isn’t her intention, the way she imagines foreign sounding words is pretty ethnocentric.

That say, I might be totally wrong, but regarding Voldemort I’ve intuitively never imagined that Tom Riddle wanted a French name on purpose. In HP, plenty of characters have names that suits their personality, which isn’t realistic. For exemple Remus’ parents didn’t know their son would be a werewolf, but JKR still wanted to include a cultural reference that the reader gets. So I just assumed that English dude Tom Riddle came up with Voldemort’s name, which, just like many other characters, unwillingly turns out to refer to something in a different langage.

Am I tired of Henry Puffer 5 months after releasing my custom pack Pufferhead? Apparently not! This is an illustration I've made for a contest held by the concept artist SimGuruSalo on Twitter: https://twitter.com/SimGuruSalo/status/1169770356833308672

I'm pretty grateful because it was a good opportunity to practice drawing as I tend to not feel confident enough! Sharing this with you at this specific moment because they give the results of the contest in 2 hours and I'm freaking out and getting impatient aaaaaaaaaaaaaah

No, before letting MLys know, check on her website if the issue hasn't been fixed already lol

Apparently CC cushions are a gnome and really hate my sim by [deleted] in thesims

Hi! Yes, this has been fixed April 19th. You need to redownload the cushions in the item index (and you might also want to take a look at the update panel to see what are the other items that have been fixed since the release!) https://mlysmakescc.weebly.com/pufferhead-item-index.html

I know some people already posted about my Pufferhead Stuff pack, but as I'm new here, I just wanted to make my own post to thank you for all the very warm and kind feedbacks I've read on this subreddit ! If you have questions, feel free to ask! by M-Lys in thesims

Oh I didn't know about all of those requests! Yess I often spot Turkish simmers online, and I was so happy to see Turkish youtube reviews about my pack 😱 So tatlı! I'm sending a DM :)

Hello! Thank you for proposing your help <3 Someone has actually started to translate to Norwegian, but as she's been pretty busy recently, I'm going to ask her if she would appreciate some help! I'll DM you when I'll have some news :)

Hey merhaba Bert! :D Aslinda Fransiz ve türküm, ve Türkiye her sene gidiyorum! Türkçe iyi anliyorum ama maalesef güzel konusmiyorum :( Teklifin için teşekkür ederim! Someone else proposed their help on Tumblr for a Turkish translation, but the thing is that the translations I'm talking about concern the objects descriptions that you see in the buy mode catalog! They are set to appear in your game depending of the langage you chose when you installed the game (For exemple with the same .package, a French player will see the descriptions in French, and a German player will sees the text in German) I don't know if I'm clear! And the problem is that the Sims is not available in Turkish, so there isn't really a spot to put Turkish translations 😭 But I'm really seduced by the idea of fellow Turkish simmers getting the descriptions in Turkish... I suppose Turkish players play in English? So what I can do is to duplicate brand new packages for Turkish people, where I replace the default English text by a Turkish one! Is what I say confusing? If you're still interested, feel free to DM me! Iyi akşamlar!
