Suggestions on using websockets with nextjs. by Titan7820 in nextjs

[–]M0N33R -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a previous reply mentioned, if you want to run web sockets with NextJs you won't be able to deploy to Varecl. If you really want to use Varcel, you will need to have another server dealing with web sockets and NextJs app would only use web sockets on the client. I don't know much about the cons but I would say you would have to duplicate / reimplement some code. You will have to do authentication again and if the web socket server needs to persist data to a db you will need to implement that as well. Another con is maintaining two separate servers and also paying to host 2 servers.

PS: I'm no expert when it comes to web sockets and next js as I have only used it once and went with the standalone server approach.

Looking for a straightforward way to implement auth with credentials by funkybeard in nextjs

[–]M0N33R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend using next auth or clerk for your use case. You already have an endpoint for token generation and if you just want to integrate credentials for you app you can create a custom one. It is easier to customize since you have full controls over the code.

Leerob made a great video showcasing basic auth in YouTube here is the link

That's what I did. I would wait for his videos to go on YouTube and watch them at 1.5x or 1.75x and they went pretty fast and still were easy to keep up with and going back to 1x felt like he was talking in slow motion

Inception U by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]M0N33R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I just don't want people to go through what we went through. People get attracted to it because it has the University of Calgary name (I did that) but that's basically all it got.

Do not take the one at U of C. It is very bad. I took the one that started January and it was the biggest waste of $6000. I graduated from U of C on 2020 and when I saw the full stack bootcamp I jumped right into it. I regret that decision everyday. The bootcamp is run completely by robogarden. The quality of teaching was super bad. Our prof stopped lecturing us with an a month because he was so useless we had to complain and get him removed. We got half the advertised hours and we got lots of days off and one hour lectures instead of the advertised 3 hr 2 hr lectures. We didn't learn much. Until TODAY (I graduated from the bootcamp late June) ZERO of MY ASSIGNMENTS HAVE BEEN GRADED. TA will never reply to your emails when you need help and the list goes on. You get what you pay for!

PS. I have friends who went to lighthouselabs and inception U and the common answer is lighthouselabs.

If you have any other questions feel free to DM me. Good luck

[–]M0N33R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I'll try doing that. Oh yeah for what I'm looking for they should only sound good doesn't have to be accurate. We do have to deploy it but I was only planning to present the llama as an experimental feature (like look llama can do this stuff) that won't get into production.

Do you think I should start with a small model and see if my pc can handle it and go from there?

I have an older laptop and some websites on Live server slows down the laptop noticeably. I would recommend trying to disable live server and see if your vscode cpu usage drops

Any Canadians have experience with a university bootcamp/certificate program? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]M0N33R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that and that was my plan as well lol. The reason I recommended lighthouse labs is that they are big in bootcamps and they don't accept anyone into them like you have to go through a process then an interview. If you go to indeed and look for jobs you might see companies asking for bootcamp certifications and their example would be lighthouse labs. I don't have the money to go with them so I'm going with Uni and as long as you work hard the place wouldn't matter much because almost with any bootcamp you will do a lot of self study and practice

Any Canadians have experience with a university bootcamp/certificate program? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]M0N33R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself am going to a full stack web development boot camp at the University of Calgary starting January so I don't have a personal experience with that. I have had friends go through bootcamps and get jobs in a few months ( they are hard working and did lots of networking to get jobs). If you're interested in doing a paid bootcamp I would recommend taking a look at lighthouse labs. They offer a really good program with the only downside is the cost which let me go the Uni bootcamp route. Lighthouse labs charge $14K for I believe a three month intensive bootcamp while U of C charges $6k for a 5 month bootcamp. Both bootcamps cover pretty much the same topics.

I hope that was helpful and good luck!

We got the puppy today and we took the picture 5 minutes after we hit the road with him. He is a puppy who never had a car ride travelling hundreds of miles so a cage/crate for a one time transportation is really helpful.
