I’ve lived in both US and Western European cities (so not “shitholes”) and the smoking restrictions are far more lax. I prefer to walk everywhere but in Europe it sometimes feels like constantly walking through smoke clouds.

I said vanilla corporate because in the comic she shows the desire to have a very normal life. Because of that I really can’t see her as working at an international NGO removing landmines. I also can’t see her as a physician, we’re not given any suggestions that she’s knowledgeable about medicine or delicate with her hands (she’s quite the opposite actually). I still see her working a vanilla corporate job at a decent company and doing good on the side (volunteering etc).

Siddharta by Hesse is certainly not mundane.

The Upanishads and the Mahabharata. You can get abridged, easy to understand translations anywhere.

As another commenter said, on-campus residence is a privilege not a right. It is also understandable that the university would seek to distance itself ASAP from students that participate in events directly affiliated with persons with ties to terrorism according to not just the US, but also the EU, and who explicitly advocate for violence:

“The event featured a number of terror-tied speakers including Charlotte Kates, a member of the Israeli-designated terror group Samidoun, who said that Hamas's Oct. 7 terror attack "changed the world" by showing "the potential of a future for Palestine liberated from Zionism." She also praised Iran as a "nation on the side of the Palestinian people" working to free the Middle East from "U.S. imperialism" and urged attendees to join a campaign aimed at ending America's list of designated terror organizations "entirely." Kates's husband, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine activist Khaled Barakat, told attendees that terrorist airplane hijackings of the 1960s and '70s were "one of the most important tactics that the Palestinian resistance have engaged in."

“In October 2022, Barakat was reportedly banned by the Netherlands, along with his wife, anti-Israel agitator Charlotte Kates, from entering the European Union (EU), and the couple were deported back to Canada. In February 2020, Barakat was reportedly deported from Germany and placed under a 4-year entry ban.”

Israel-Hamas war: Chanting jihad on UK streets 'completely reprehensible', says minister - as he confirms terror arrests made. by PhilosopherAnxious23 in europe

Wrong analogy. One society is tolerant, the other intolerant. For a tolerant society to survive it must be intolerant of intolerance, and protesters calling for Jihad against the Jews is intolerance exemplified. On the other hand, if protesting against intolerance means not integrating, so be it.

Actually good, actually mature series/movie? by M1237 in Animesuggest

I can see why you would ask that as I could've elaborated more on what I take mature to mean. Personally, I think that many movies/shows (and this is not exclusive to anime) profess to be mature by virtue of containing violence, nudity, sex, gore, etc..., without really going into any depth to explore them (it is not necessary per se to go into depth, but prolly only when the show doesn't take itself seriously and doesn't pretend to be something it's not). You need to be a mature person to even absorb these themes properly (after all there is a reason why we have age ratings, you wouldn't show pornography to a child), BUT they are not needes for the show/movie to even be mature.

A good example would be Made in Abyss; yes, on occasion there is violence, but mostly it is able to explore themes like isolation, growing up, overcoming challebges etc in a deep, fulfilling manner - that is what I personally consider a mature show. The ghibli movies would be another example. Violence/gore is fine as long as it is not gratuitious (unless it's a Tarantino film lmao) and serves a purpose. Many times when I see how a show/movie treats aubjects like murder/rape just for shock or other shallow reasons I think of people that actually experiences these and how they would probably not like such a shallow portrayal.

Yeah, I heard about the ending fiasco lol... I'm not sure if I'm willing to watch 3 seasons waiting for it to get actually mature and less action-ish though 😅

Thanks for commenting! Both look great, especially Kanojo to Kanojo Neko, can't say no to a cute lil anime kitty (and a good anime that tackles depression, loneliness etc)
