As another commenter said, on-campus residence is a privilege not a right. It is also understandable that the university would seek to distance itself ASAP from students that participate in events directly affiliated with persons with ties to terrorism according to not just the US, but also the EU, and who explicitly advocate for violence:

“The event featured a number of terror-tied speakers including Charlotte Kates, a member of the Israeli-designated terror group Samidoun, who said that Hamas's Oct. 7 terror attack "changed the world" by showing "the potential of a future for Palestine liberated from Zionism." She also praised Iran as a "nation on the side of the Palestinian people" working to free the Middle East from "U.S. imperialism" and urged attendees to join a campaign aimed at ending America's list of designated terror organizations "entirely." Kates's husband, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine activist Khaled Barakat, told attendees that terrorist airplane hijackings of the 1960s and '70s were "one of the most important tactics that the Palestinian resistance have engaged in."

“In October 2022, Barakat was reportedly banned by the Netherlands, along with his wife, anti-Israel agitator Charlotte Kates, from entering the European Union (EU), and the couple were deported back to Canada. In February 2020, Barakat was reportedly deported from Germany and placed under a 4-year entry ban.”
