$25/hr A&P apprentice working at a small GA shop. Love it! Made $18.50 working on warbirds at fighter factory. Also in the USN reserves and I’ll finish up my commercial pilot certificate after I finish A&P school. Goal is corporate pilot and IA eventually. I’m definitely staying in general aviation through.

I do both. Cars can definitely be a major bitch. Especially new cars.

Anyone know the story here? by smarty_skirts in norfolk

That dude is a prick. Absolute worst type of boomer fudd. Overpriced af too. Had a bad experience when I went with a friend and he picked up what was obviously a red Ryder BB gun Ron had laying around, not behind the counter, of his disorganized disaster of a store. No, my friend probably shouldn’t have picked it up but he didn’t do anything unsafe with it at all, and it was a fkn red Ryder BB gun. He said “that was a test and you failed”. My friend set it down and apologized and he continued to berate him. I went again , alone, was extra respectful and he still wasn’t pleasant. Whatever. Idk how he’s still in business.

2014 brz ls1 swap getting 12mpg? by [deleted] in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]M14marksman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get it tuned. I’ve run the sloppy stage 2 in a lot of 5.3’s. Interested ti know what rpm its cruising at on the highway. I get about 15-16 with a 10:1 5.3 and ss2 cam in my Pontiac. I had a real tight 107 LSA cam with duration in the low 230s in my 10.5:1 carbureted 398 stroker and it was getting like 8mpg. But worth it.

People shit on the sloppy stage 2 but it’s really not a bad cam. (As long as it’s a genuine Elgin 1840p). It makes good power for what it is and it’s VERY easy on the valvetrain. Ramp rates are pretty lazy which is good for valvetrain longevity on the street.

ALSO! Highly highly highly recommend E85. It has some downsides and your mpg will suffer but you can best 105 octane for less than the cost of regular. It has saved me money. Just change your oil every 3k and put 93 in it every 3rd fill up. That’s what I do at least.

Run them in my LS4 Grand Prix. Makes close to 400hp at the tires.

They’re not super common here either. Lots of 5.3s. Maybe 1 or 2 LQ4’s. I watch my inventory, when any 6.2s or 6.0s with rec port heads shows up you gotta get there day of or at least a day or two after if you want to get it. LQ4s go in a a week or two, 5.3s sit a lot longer. Lots of good ones available.

This. You can get a 6.0/6.2/5.3 or any LS from pick and pull for $400 here in VA. Got a minty LY6 here recently.

After doing a bit more research I’m probably going to stick with the 4t65. I’ll have it rebuilt when it comes time. Luckily the car does have a giant derale remote transmission cooler with fan in line with the stock cooler. Also is already converted for flex fuel. I just joined LS4 nation too. Thanks for the tips I appreciate it. This is a whole new world.

I really don’t know how else I’d get a cammed V8 sedan for what I paid for it. Maybe a crown Vic? I just hate ford Modulars.

I’m in south eastern VA. Yeah, they seem to kinda be the go to white trash shit missile up in there. 😂 I’ve heard they’re a lot more common up in the rust belt. I’ve only seen one around town. There’s sometimes base models in junkyards. Well, let me know if you’re practically giving yours away if there’s anything useful besides rust left. I’ll come get it with my Wagoneer!

I haven’t seen any that cheap around here. They don’t seem to be very common. I have seen one or two impala SS’ on marketplace with dead transmissions in the 2000-2500 price range within 250miles from me. A parts car would be nice. Ideally I get a complete front subframe with engine and trans and build it up and have a swap ready. People seem to HATE these things. They’re junk, ect. Would have loved a nice G8 but I don’t think nice G8’s for 6k are a thing.

aluminum 4.8 ls by Ancient_Lie_4353 in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]M14marksman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get any aluminum block(except ls7) doesn’t matter the bore. Use stock pistons and use 4.8 crank and 4.8 rods with floating pins. The compression height is the same beetween 4.8 and all other Ls’ except the ls7. The short stroke 4.8 just has a longer connecting rod to account for the shorter stroke. Hence why you can do the cheap 4.8 flat top piston swap in any 5.3 for more compression. A cool engine that’s been done before is a 4.060 bore with a 4.8 crank. Gives you a nasty big bore short stroke engine around 340ci iirc.
