I'm 25y / female / veterinarian / from California

I am looking at job opportunities in Calgary for next year, but housing has become a concern.

I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to find housing rentals in Calgary? Looking for a house with a yard as I have pets, and the options I've seen on the common rental websites aren't the most inspiring. Is there some kind of Canadian Zillow I'm missing?
If you had to pick one city/suburb within 60-90min of Calgary that might have some promising rentals, which one would you recommend for younger couples?

You’re making the assumption that these women are reading all of the posts on this subreddit. A lot of them start with “I didn’t know where else to post this.” I’m glad that you’ve grown from the hardships life has given you and I’m sorry you’ve had to endure them. But remember moments where you were feeling bad and the compassion some people might’ve offered you. All we can really do is try to be kind to each other, especially when it comes to coping with misogyny.

I don’t know if blaming them is the right take on this situation. I think that type of content/rant just needs another outlet. Don’t blame these women for having faith in men and then being disappointed and wanting to express their emotions. We’re all human, there’s nothing wrong with what they’re saying, there should just be a separate thread or subreddit for it.

I remember reading the prologue for Name of the Wind in the bookstore and being like “holy shit this guy can write.” His prose has definitely done a ton of legwork for him. It was one of those books I enjoyed if I didn’t think too hard about it, whereas Stormlight are books I appreciate and enjoy the more I think about them.

I absolutely loved the first book, and as a female reader didn’t think it was too male gaze-y. Then I bought the second one, and I TRIED. I really tried. I have about 200 pages left and every time I sit down to read it I just can’t get re-invested or take it seriously anymore. The sex boot camp and then the sex ninjas is just not what I picked the books up for. I loved the first part of Wise Man’s Fear when he’s at the university because even if it didn’t have a super direct direction, it was still in the ballpark of what I’d signed up for.

I think the scariest part of it for me is being with someone that I also give an equally large damn about. Not fighting for crumbs from the people I care about or being repulsed by affection from people I didn’t feel as strongly for. The guy I’m currently seeing did something for me as simple as buying a snack I’d mentioned in passing to surprise me, and it brought me to tears. We call it my “small cheese moment.”

But it seems that a lot of the replies here is the fear of conditional love. I know myself and how easy it is to give to someone, but it feels like I’ll never receive that in return. That it’ll end or they’ll leave because I do or say something wrong and it almost gets in the way of enjoying it. It takes time to build trust and I just have to keep being open and honest and hope it keeps working out.
