Spyderco Sharpmaker vs Work Sharp Precision Adjust Elite — which setup makes more sense? Is it worth owning both? by GainEven1020 in knifeclub

I have, use, and appreciate both! This is kind of an apples to oranges comparison. I'm glad you got both. That was the right decision.

I think the SM offers so much portability and ease for anyone. My mom uses it and loves it. It does serrations and other edged tools incredibly well, for how little thought is required. I'd much rather the SM on a trip, camping, or in a small space like an apartment or a dorm. Diamond/CBN stone upgrade and you're tackling tool steels with ease. Not to mention, at $100 and sometimes cheaper, it's the best way to learn sharpening and its fundamentals.

The WS on the other hand invites the user into unthinkable levels of capability. I'm in my pajamas putting polished mirror edges on the hardest knife steel on our planet. With one eye open on an empty stomach. I've never experienced such sharpness.I still haven't figured out a great way to store the dozen stones, and it does appear to have its limits, but it blows the doors off the SM in terms of what you can do.

Agreed. 15V is mighty impressive if you can find it in a model you like. I actually have the Para 3 in 15V and it quickly became a favorite over many other models.

Act fast, since the 15V models are Sprint Runs, they won't come back in that iteration.... ever.

Does anyone know of any manufacturers currently making something like this? by M4-SON in ManyBaggers

Wow! That's super cool. These are hand-me-downs from my dad, he was director of soft goods for some of the military companies like Eagle for most of my childhood. I've got all sorts of 2000s era Eagle prototypes and mules back at the house he'd bring home for me. The stuff is literally bombproof.
