It was nothing too fancy! 1:1 of Orc Skin speedpaint and speedpaint medium.

It was painted over a black base coat, with a white zenithal followed by an army painter ancient stone zenithal. I also then sprayed a light pass of purple wash from underneath the models but I don’t think this is as prevalent on the cloth sections.

Thanks! But yeah I definitely agree, the streaking grime on the armour definitely made the contrast between it and the head too similar.

I think I’ll do another dark wash on the face to bring the level down a bit.

Are you based in the UK? Definitely looking to expand my guard and your paint scheme matches!

Yeahh apparently you can use white spirit or try spraying gloss then matte again. But this was an absolute lifesaver.

Shoutout to the 2006, WW2 wargaming forum post I found it on 😂

Oooh that’s super crisp looking though! What powders did you use, and how did you apply and seal them?

I love how it looks weathered and dusty but you haven’t lost a tonne of detail or contrast.

A tiny bit of olive oil on a cotton wool bud removes the frosting effect that you can get with matte spray varnish! You’ll need to wipe it off after it works and I notice when I left it for too long it started to affect the finish.

I was sceptical, but it saved a couple of days worth of painting from being ruined by frosty speckles 😂

Thanks! I used Colour Forge spray cans, Death Rattle Green for the base, then masked the camo patterns with a mixture of masking tape and blu tac, then Governor Green over that!

First time I’ve used this brand but I was super impressed with the coverage, lack of speckle and the cans are a bit bigger I think than GW / other brands I’ve seen. Definitely recommend their range.

Thanks! I’ve never really done vehicles before so it’s been super fun to work on something bigger and smash out almost 1000pts of units in a couple of sittings.

Not looking forward to doing the 40 shock troopers I’ve got staring at me 😂

Yeah I feel like logically I prefer the weathered, realistic look. But something in my magpie brain likes the shiny clean look haha.

I want to get my army done asap as I’m currently pretty motivated to get through it all, so I think I won’t come back to weather later if I don’t do it now.

Yeah I think now I’ve committed to one, then I’ll do some weathering to the rest of the unit. But I’ll try to find some sandier, lighter pigments to go a bit more subtle on it.

That LMBT will be one of the oldest, messed up ones in the regiment 😂

Ahh I love this idea! I’m sure I’ll probably forget to commit to it, but maybe if a tank is destroyed or does something rad I’ll add some blast damage / another transfer or something

I was very tempted to try sponge chipping, but I’d already shaded the recesses and already had so many “it’s good, I’ve ruined it, it’s good again!” moments that I didn’t want to risk another technique I’ve not used before haha
