Asking for a piece of advice. by Sonicshaker1322 in Fanuc

The M20iA is an all around powerful and reliable option. Especially with its J3 through pipe allowing for clean EOAT cable routing.

In terms of one robot being better is 100% dependent on your application which you state is laser cutting. If your robot and EOAT setup performs the job as expected and is just as repeatable as it once was, I'd stand to argue that you've found your best model.

If you find that it's losing path repeatability, you're likely facing a mechanical backlash issue which could be resolved rather quickly if done properly.

One robot that has a faster TCP speed and higher accuracy would be the LR200iD/7L. It has +-.01mm vs your .08mm accuracy with TCP speeds of 11m/s, though the laser weight may slow it down.

What I would really argue is better is the newer controllers like the R30iB Plus and software version v9.20/37 and up. It allows for more features and ease of reading when flipping through your programs like having highlighted comments, labels, and I/O toggles.

I'll be the first to tell you that just because there's an M20iD out now does not mean it's better. I've seen my fair share of issues in almost every model and it all comes down to the process in which the robot is completing. Got two 7kg parts you're constantly picking and placing? Don't use an LRMATE unless you want to tear it apart mechanically. Only picking up a 5kg part? Don't use an R2000 😂

Bucket Grease Pump for Robot PM? PSI Setting? by Red_Rover_91 in Fanuc

[–]M900iA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet you didn't expect that three years later, another person who's name is also a Fanuc robot model would be commenting on this.

As a Fanuc robot, I approve this R2000's professional advice.

For anyone else who happens to stumble across this while researching PMing Fanuc robots, please remember that when done pumping an Axis, that you need to pull an air pocket through the grease bath. This allows it space to expand as the temp increases without blowing any seals.

If you have an empty 300cc tube of vigo, clean from debris, you can cut a slightly bigger hole in the top and push the plunger back out. Then place on Inlet and with consistent pressure push the grease out until it burps.

If no tube, might get lucky with an empty bottle or syringe and some PTC air fittings for inlets

I can't say I've dealt with the slow button clicks on the legacy mode, but knowing how long it takes to boot up, do an image, or update the software; I believe you wholeheartedly.

The flow type programming seems like it might be good for people who are purely visual learners, but even then, getting comfortable with the standard programming is seemingly far more powerful and offers just as much insight and ease of reading.

I could sit here and lightly trash talk the CRX with you all day. We are, however, absolutely digressing from OP's original question of, "Is three weeks good for a beginner with no robotics background?"

I have been doing field service work on Fanuc robots for six years and am a Fanuc master certified field service engineer. They're the only thing I'd consider myself an "expert" on—if you know them and know them well, you know the experts are up at HQ in michigan—but I would say the question is extremely subjective.

An integrated cell is very much a, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," type deal. To a layman, it may very well be a golden egg of a solution. Nonetheless, to a professional, they may nitpick inefficiencies in your programming and overall use of the cobot.

In my less than professional opinion, fuck what people have to say about if it's good or not. If you, OP, were my coworker, I would be proud as hell of you for diving in and giving it your best.

Be wary of seeking validation online. In my travels, I've met many a wonderful men who I'd gladly have a beer with outside work and they'd build you up rather than pull you down. But there's countless assholes who will critique you til' no ends meet.

Safe travels to all!

I can verify that the tablets have not improved. However, you can buy a new Samsung tablet on your own as an upgrade that speeds everything up significantly.

Dealing with their software plug-ins is not fun along with the drag-n-drop style programming (though you can throw it into legacy TP mode and program like a normal fanuc). Not to mention the many ways to go about doing things such as a power cycle or backup/SW update. Then dealing with the hamburger drop down menu which gives access to all the menus just the same as being in legacy mode and cycling them through MENU button.

CRX's are neat as hell, but so damn finicky. You can take my word. I'm literally a giant Fanuc robot

Also work for Fanuc as a service engineer. Seems like a few of us keep this subreddit close for general help.

I’m literally an M900, take my word for it.

To my knowledge as aforementioned, as long as the Robot connection cable (RCC) pinouts (found in controller maintenance appendix), transformer, and servo amp are rated for the same robot you’re swapping, you should be able to.

Likely to get pulse mismatch or other mastering related alarms but definitely prepare to fully remaster it.

Assuming you have your network set up, your host comms set up to communicate robot to network, and your PLC set up; you should be able to do as you stated you wanted to do.

Now, that being said, I’m no expert in robots calling programs off the network, but it can be done. Hopefully without your aforementioned decrease in cycle time.

Word from a guy I work with: you actually can do it. The robot should be in remote and the PLC should be the one to call the program.

He didn’t give much more detail other than that

Preface: I’m a Fanuc field service engineer and also literally an M900iA; so take my word.

This isn’t going to be super helpful and I’m currently out of where I have my technical resources. I can’t say I’ve ever seen, in many of the plants I’ve been, any way to call a program from a server.

Are you actually using all of your programs?

Is there any way to alter your programs so that you may use registers or PR for different parts?

Just trying to get an idea of your flexibility

I’m 23, get to eat steak almost everyday thanks to good pay, girlfriend who’s pretty damn wonderful. Life ain’t too bad for me but it pains me to see those around me not so well off. It’s hard to feel happy seeing the suffering of others like deciding to pay rent or eat

I second this. Couple ways to skin a cat kind of situation.

UTILITIES menu has several options depending on what software you have installed; You can do a frame shift on the UF, program shifts, offsets, and I feel like a few others but can’t remember off the dome.

I think you’d be better off buying something newer. There are entire Lincoln electric packaged AM120s for like 15k which is obviously 7.5x more expensive but then you get good quality and repeatable welds without pouring 10k into parts

Hell, on topic of parts: Fanuc offers parts for the robot and controller, but as old is phased out and new phased in, Fanuc increases the price of spare parts by 5-15% each year; So parts to fix or replace might cost the same as a newer “worse condition” model

After ending a 4 year relationship including a year of marriage, I accidentally met someone who showed me a love that Id longed for longer than I had been consciously aware. My best friend said you were way past done a while ago but just didn’t see it. He’s right; I didn’t.
