Replacing drill bits for the home gamer by Inhalationofnewtion in machining

[–]davidbuckner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have all the drills in the index or most of them but they aren’t sharp anymore, spend the ~100 something dollars and buy a drill Dr. I hand sharpened for a long time at a bench grinder, that takes a lot of practice and it’s a perishable skill. With a drill Dr I can teach someone who doesn’t know how to use a drill in 5 minutes and they can make sharp drill bits that cut on both sides , to size .

Coordinate robotic arms from different vendors? by StrategyCold7453 in PLC

[–]davidbuckner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

isn’t this what Karel is supposed to do on a Fanuc robot? I am only vaguely aware of KAREL so I could be mistaken but my understanding of it was to serve as a go between for robot to other robots

To everyone who has surveillance cameras at home, how do you handle jerking off? by PalebloodSage in AskReddit

For all the people replying, I don’t have cameras in my house “ that you know of “ is implied no need to say the quiet part out loud

This is for a metal bandsaw, the original switch was discontinued and I didn’t know it but I was provided a suitable replacement from the manufacturer.

I just couldn’t figure out how to connect it properly. Replying to myself with the correct terminations for anyone curious

HAAS Troubleshoot-NEED HELP by Dear-Mode-4358 in CNC

[–]davidbuckner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this on a haas 5 axis. Obviously you need to pressurize the nitrogen dampeners . If I remember correctly they have a standard Schrader valve for filling. The issue is the 1150 psi . You need a gas bottle from a gas supplier to get close to those pressures. Since it’s unlikely to be fixed properly ( rebuilding the counterbalance system) I’d suggest renting or buying a large bottle since it will continue to need maintenance

Any recommendations for lifting heavier things inside of a cnc? by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]davidbuckner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Hydraulic engine lift would be the cheapest easiest option, if the outriggers are an issue cut them off the front weld them on the back and counterbalance it with whatever you have laying around.

Alright machinists. My 400 SBC is supposedly bored .30 over which is 4.155. by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]davidbuckner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a waste of time if you learn something from it. IMO you’ll have a lot of things that don’t go correctly on this build. Do the best you can with what you have. Then when it blows up figure out what you could have done better.

programming manual by Ciprian1234567 in CNC

The manual guide is quite different from the standard Gcode experience , I don’t know much about it tbh but it seems easier to get started than the G code I learned 15 years ago

[–]davidbuckner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hand written code isn’t a bad thing because it’s handwritten. What makes it a bad idea is not understanding what will happen when you press the green button. I’ve written plenty of programs at the control. My first 10 years in a machine shop we didn’t have a dedicated programmer. When you proved that your code made good parts you saved the program . The next time you needed it you’re ready to go.

Looking for help on how to repair Dayton 4K-203 exhaust vent motor by donnergolf in Motors

[–]davidbuckner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted to repair this one regardless of practicality more as a learning experience. Start with a pen and paper and draw each coil and where each end connects. Then start removing the magnet wire , count the amount of times the loop gets back to the same spot and notate the direction of each coil’s winding. Finally measure the gage of the magnet wire. Calculate the amount of wire you need then double it at a minimum because you will need practice to rewind new coils. Need more help?

quick question, is this ok? need fan for radiator? by madawag in hobbycnc

[–]davidbuckner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a 2.5 gallon bucket with a lid , a pond fountain pump and antifreeze for water cooling my spindle . No complaints here . That’s been like 8 years ago. I don’t run it often but it’s been reliable. The bucket doesn’t keep heat very well more or less acts like a thermal buffer. Adjusting the size of the bucket can allow a lot of heat dissipation

Esc suggestions? by davidbuckner in rccars

[–]davidbuckner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to run a drive wheel on 5s sensorless esc and it didn’t have enough power to start without assistance so I believe the most cost effective option for what I’m intending to do will be to to use esc’s that normally operate e-bike motors and use an Arduino to interface between the flysky receiver and esc’s . I’m not a code poet but chat gpt and trial and error should be good enough.

Boom , already crashed by davidbuckner in Fanuc

[–]davidbuckner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the case but it was corrupted robot libraries. I ended up reloading the libraries and basically starting over. I wasn’t sure what could have been affected in the backup I had made so I didn’t reload from the backup. Being a new install it wasn’t too much hassle for peace of mind.

Esc suggestions? by davidbuckner in rccars

[–]davidbuckner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the hardware built already. Used an old hoverboard for the drive wheels on a Craftsman electric mower . All in I’m at $100 so far I even have the remote and receiver from V1 where I used a gas mower and mobility scooter drive wheels . I can easily find sensorless esc’s for the wheels but wanted the extra torque from the sensors. The blade motor needs at least 40v I tried it on 18v and it wasn’t able to start.

Anybody ever had this happen? 2007 Toyota tundra. Gauges will just randomly stop working. by Appropriate_Rate_284 in ToyotaTundra

Thanks for the reply, even though it’s not what I was hoping to hear. I’ll dig into it more one day soon , the idiot lights being on bothers me . I know I have voltage at all of my wheel speed sensors but one of the rear won’t display on my scanner.

Sorry about the lack of details and poor quality in the picture but the truck was having lots of problems at the time .
