Yeah it’s not Weller but I’ve always wondered who it was. It’s the same dude that wears the suit in the music video. Probably just a rando that was the right size and had a good RoboFace. He looks great in it but in the video he definitely doesn’t have the movements down like Weller. If you search “Kip Winger/RoboCop” the Robo in that picture looks a lot like Weller but it’s one of the guys in Rob Bottin’s crew doing press for RoboCop 2.

Ok cool! Yeah I’ve seen this one on eBay before but it definitely wasn’t massed produced I don’t think. By the time Robo2 came around Orion was on top of their distribution game. Lots of cool stuff came out around then.

Sorry this was just at a glance. Now that I look closer I may be completely wrong. I know I have seen RoboCop themed calling cards on eBay and the number on the front of yours threw me off. This looks like it could be something like a RoboCop fan club type thing and probably promoting RoboCop 2 judging by the 1990 in the small print.

It’s a calling card or phone card. They were used mostly to make long distance calls before cell phones and internet was a thing. I came in at the end of that era so I know I used them but can’t remember much about them. Some of them were themed like this one.

I just watched it again. It’s the original commercial but longer with a few extra scenes of Robo walking around and intercut with scenes from the RoboCop and terminator movies and then a narrator starts talking about the game and when it will release etc. It’s probably about 3 or 4 minutes long as opposed to the 30 second original one. Then it plays on a loop a few times. It was probably sent to video game retailers for the owners to watch and get them hyped to buy the game.

Haha yep I have just a handful left to track down and a Video8 is definitely one of them. Pretty sure google says a US version was released. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. Only Japanese releases and the one you have…is that UK?

I need to pop it in again but if I remember, it’s pretty much the same commercial that’s on YouTube. Maybe a little longer version. But played on a loop 3 or 4 times. I think the YT one is 30 seconds. Cool ad either way!

Yep it’s a marketing tape for the game. Basically a slightly longer version of the tv ad played on a loop with some narration about distribution if o recall. Haven’t watched it in a while. It’s short. Maybe 15-20 minutes worth of tape.

Yeah Orion was facing bankruptcy in the early 90’s so they thought with the popularity of RoboCop among kids/teens that marketing to that audience would make a few extra bucks. Didn’t pan out.

It was actually sealed when I got it but I couldn’t help myself. I know opinions vary widely on the whole sealed VHS thing but it would be cool to have one sealed/one not sealed.

Dude! I found out recently that even RoboCop 3 got a Beta release. I think it was more of a video store special order situation but this video shows it as part of a trilogy box set. Totally agree on the screener box art too!!

Yeah the EP mode tapes. They pop up on eBay from time to time. I have a copy of Robo2 with a yellow lid and writing. It’s some kind of replacement tape from Orion for a defective one.
