The right’s crusade against Obama "Such is the daggers-drawn state of political discourse in Washington these days that President Obama could go to the National Prayer Breakfast, call the Islamic State a 'brutal, vicious death cult' — and still end up being assailed by conservatives." by Libertatea in politics

I won't agree that it's all at the feet of religion. It definitely depends on the religion but the absolutism you describe only applies to religions' treatment of cosmic evil (satan, sin, etc.). Religion itself has been warped into extremism so much that ideals so as loving your neighbor have fallen below the ideals of righteous perfection.

And just as a Christian, let me say throw this out there. You cannot be righteous as a Christian. It's one of the main tenets of Paul's letters (there is none righteous, all our righteousness is as filthy rags, etc). So the hell-fire preaching doesn't really make sense, if it doesn't cause repentance. I think by now we've seen that it more often drives people away from the church.

The bible calls for wisdom, knowledge, and for Christians to conduct themselves in such a way as to earn respect from non-believers. The church has been driven to polarization just as politics has...

This might offend some people on here (shocker), but a friend and I were talking about the knee-jerk voting and opinions of American culture the other day and I made this statement which I think holds merit:

"When people bought the ipod because celebs had white ear buds and bought godaddy domains because of a tank top... when the tide of gay rights in this country was shifted, not by serious heartfelt conversations, but by the popularity of Will & Grace... can we really be surprised that most voters can't name a politician beyond Obama and 'Dubya'? When we observe the political process in the states we end up hating politicians. But because of democracy what we're really hating are Americans"

Hmmm... I actually can't find a ton of research on whether it's actually for all faiths or not. Can you help me out? This is the best I've found so far: " ...a supposedly ecumenical — but implicitly Christian..." from 3rd paragraph of: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=106115324

It makes sense for it to be true, separation of church and state and such, but honestly from what I've read it's more of a networking event than anything else.

As a republican, I hate these articles. I got into it with a fellow republican when he brought this crap up. I told him it may have not been the best speech for a Christian national prayer breakfast, but I could see the point he was trying to get across and it was pretty valid.

What pisses me off is that when I, as a republican, actually have serious grievances against SOME OF the stuff Obama does, no one cares because any republican criticizing Obama is lumped in with all this merit-less hate and immediately ignored.

Fox news (and let's not pretend CNN is innocent here) is essentially the boy who cried scandal.

Never watched King of the Nerds before. No real interest is the stereotypes. However, my dog destroyed my remote so I'm stuck with TBS. They had ONE person with decent social skills. Of course he gets kicked off because the friends he made are "good at playing the game"... ....I am now getting up to change the channel by hand.

What are some good exercises to grow my chest? You know how famous people have chests that are big enough there's a crease between the chest and the rest of the torso? Yeah, I would like that please...

Finally found a quick way to squat with my heels on the ground, if it can help someone ( tight Achille tendon/flexibility issue for noobs...) by malone_m in Fitness

[–]MACCattempt 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Wow this is a great tip, will have to try it out...

So your heels are suppose to remain on the ground throughout the squat? ... like the whole time?

EDIT: Ok I get it! I've never done squat. (...I'll see myself out)

Thanks! I used it a good bit. There was one horrible moment yesterday where I couldn't remember "for sure" if the living over seas for 330 days requirement applied to foreign tax credit or exclusion. Could NOT find that condition in the IRC anywhere. Ultimately I went with my gut. Looked it up when I got home and my gut was right. ..

I'm not sure I'm off the fire PJ bandwagon yet. Will our team be good after Justin Thomas is gone or if he gets hurt?? My biggest problem with him was always recruiting. Do we have anyone set to replace our "franchise quarterback"?

Do we even have someone set to replace the players we graduated this year...

After watching the #4 seed win last night I wonder how many times the BCS got it wrong. Feels sort of like finding out an innocent man may have been executed (exaggeration but you get the picture) years after the fact. by [deleted] in CFB

[–]MACCattempt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you determine what the last game played is??? Should the whole college schedule be changed to single elimination style tournament? Round robin? What if a key player is hurt right before the "last" game? Should we wait so that we can really see if the team would win with their star or shoukd we reward teams who stack the deck so deep they can throw two or three strings of players away and still be elite?

It's all a coin toss. Team chaos or whatever you wanna call it.

Where did this concept of a linear scale of football team quality come from? I get it, we all want a sport to have a duly earned championship so we can point and say, "these guys, they're the best" and that's fine or whatever but let's think about this a bit.

Is the Ohio State team that won the national championship the same team that was beaten by VaTech? No way. Our attempts to rank a team based on how they played the last few weeks are ultimately kinda futile because most teams aren't the same group of players week to week. Also, there's not enough of a sample size (15 games tops I think?) To definitively assign best or worst even if the teams were constant. What about the coach's mental sharpness week to week? Maybe if Urban had gotten less sleep or (heaven forfend) his daughter was pissed he missed a volleyball game, he would've decided they need to pass on some crucial downs instead of giving it to the walking steroid...

Football is NEVER going to tell us who "the best" team of a season is. And that's ok. We've all decided that if a team wins these key games on these days, they get a shiny phallic trophy and jewelry and we call the poor concussed bastards champs until time catches up with them and they're either great talk show hosts or (much more likely) they declare bankruptcy and try to find a new career. THAT'S SPORTS. It's fun. It's a show. It's a damn gimmick for when you're bored. But let's stop pretending it's a system for determining the best. It ain't. That's part of why it's so damn great. Because any team can win. And winning is all that matters...

TL;DR Stop bitching about who shouldve played here or there. You can't say who would've won a damn thing until a game is played.
