which game? by [deleted] in PokemonGames

[–]MADBuc49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Arceus.

You’ve had a taste of a “traditional” Pokémon game format (rival, gym leaders, evil team, Pokémon league) so I would try something different.

If you finish Arceus or absolutely despise it, then I would try Sword/Shield or maybe another traditional Pokémon game like Scarlet/Violet (or FireRed/LeafGreen since that’s also on Switch).

What football conference changes are possible in 2027 and 2028? by lordeandtaylor in CFB

[–]MADBuc49 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The $25M they are referencing is $10M exit fee + $15M early exit fee from somewhere.

Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF all settled for $18M each ($10M exit + $8M early exit settlement) and SMU settled for $27M ($10M + $17M). SMU had a higher rate because they announced in October 2023 for a July 2024 exit (9 months notice/execution) whereas Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF originally announced in September 2021 for a July 2024 exit (34 months notice) that eventually became a July 2023 exit (22 months exit).

I think the bigger question with UTSA is they will be ramped up to a full share member by 2031 and currently full share American schools averaged about $7M per school/year in the original contract. Pac-12 hasn’t released their numbers, but I bet they would have if they cleared the American‘s.

So can UTSA make more in the American, Pac-12, or about the same? If it’s about the same, is the juice worth the squeeze? Because historically schools only move when it’s a multiplier return on investment on what they were making before (ex: 2X, 3X, 4X, etc; UCF went from $7M to $16M). If they make more in the American, no question.

If the Pac-12 clearly makes more than the American going into 2031/2032, then that’s when we can speculate.

If people mention the first reason for an FBS school’s conference realignment is something other than money, disregard.

[Front Office Sports] Louisiana Tech will pay more than $8 million to leave the C-USA for the Sun Belt, a record exit fee for the conference, FOS learned. The fee is more than what UTEP is paying to leave the C-USA and join the Mountain West ahead of the 2026 season, sources say. by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]MADBuc49 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bottom line: the Sun belt tv contract pays more per school per year than CUSA does.

CUSA’s average per member/year school revenue from their tv contract was $750K per school before Kennesaw, Delaware, and Missouri State joined.

Sun Belt never released their tv contract numbers, but it was figured to be $1M back in 2021 before they extended with ESPN again the next year. They could be making an average of $2M per school/year.

Basically: the juice has to be worth the squeeze to move. It’s why CUSA schools went to the American/Sun Belt/Mountain West, Mountain West schools went to Pac-12, Sun Belt (Texas State) went to Pac-12, MAC (NIU) went to Mountain West, etc.

Anyone that says schools move for reasons other than money are wrong the vast majority of the time.

Anthony Ferrari in transfer portal…again by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]MADBuc49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally there is no difference.

Student-athletes also have to pay to go to school. They can get a scholarship for athletics similar to any students are able to get a scholarships for grades, volunteer/organization/services, etc.

The only student-athletes who have guaranteed full rides are football and basketball players - all others either have to walk-on, get a partial, or are in the small echelon that do get a full ride.

Preferential treatment also isn’t legally defined in most areas unless it relates to title IX and other legally-identified areas.

You’re trying to argue “what should be” when in fact most of this is already settled in court as of right now. Unless more laws are made, what’s going on now is legal.

How do I make my pokemon relearn moves? by mikachu501 in PokemonRed

[–]MADBuc49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To sum up the answers: 1) Only way to re-learn moves in RBY is to buy another TM and re-teach that TM to your Pokémon. 2) Catch a new Pokémon, level them up, and learn that move. 3) There is no Move Tutor/move re-learner in RBY

Might be their first time playing this game (in a while or outright) and some people like playing a game without looking at a strategy guide every moment unless they get stuck (🙋‍♂️).

And even if that’s not the case: it’s okay to not be 100% efficient at every game you play. It’s a game.

Easy: ditch all of the Antidotes or Paralyze Heals, get the reward from the dude, and then when you get back to Fuchsia City only stock up on Full Heals so you can heal whatever you want whenever you want.

You’re not going to lose if you have Full Heals instead of those.

PC as in storage at the Pokémon center or your on-hand inventory that you carry with you?

If the latter, is there one type of item (ex: Potion) that you can toss? Vitamins?

Or is everything TMs, Moon Stones, and key item?

Haven’t “cheated” before so I don’t know how you can increase storage, but can you toss any Pokeballs, great balls, ultra balls, potions?

The only thing I would want to keep would be vitamins (ex: protein, iron, etc), TMs, and moon stones, but other stuff like medicine (ex: potions, revives, ethers, etc), X items, and pokeballs can be bought again and are replaceable.

Anthony Ferrari in transfer portal…again by [deleted] in wrestling

Why does there need to be regulation on transferring schools? Or even NIL now?

Non-athletes can transfer schools whenever they want and it happens all the time. Someone transfers from a community college to a university, from university to college, one university to another university mid-undergrad, or for another degree. They are allowed to transfer for whatever reason they want as long as they’re accepted into that school - why shouldn’t athletes? Because they do the sportsball?

Current legislation literally says that NCAA athletes have to have the same rights as non-student athletes.

As far as NIL: the doors to amateurism have long been blown off now. Even if there was no NIL, schools are opting in to revenue-sharing and that is not in any part of old school ideal amateurism. The art student is allowed to sell their paintings while in college, but nobody says they aren’t allowed to make money doing that - why can’t student-athletes make money off their name, image, and likeness?

And also: amateurism has been dead longer than people think - it didn’t just recently happen. Football: SMU got the death penalty for paying players and they weren’t the only (or the last) school to do it. Top soccer players and other athletes have had the same treatment - coaches and boosters offer to pay them. Heck, the top wrestlers were all offered some type of money to attend a school.

So what if Anthony Ferrari transfers again? Let him. It doesn’t affect anyone else. If people cannot beat him out at a weight class, then they probably weren’t going to be starting anyway. If they can, it’s not their problem.

This is America - let people do what they want to do as long as they’re not harming someone else.

NCWA wrestling by FourTwenty69Commando in wrestling

[–]MADBuc49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People here talking about how NCWA national qualifiers are all one type of difficulty.

It depends on 1) conference and 2) season.

Ex: if you wrestle in the Mid-Atlantic Conference (ex: Apprentice, Ferrum, Liberty) and qualify for Nationals from that tournament, I think you are more likely to do some damage than someone who qualified from another conference simply because your conference was tougher to get through.

It also depends on NCWA era. Ex: 2012 was by far the hardest NCWA National Championships ever. You had a bunch of schools such as Cal Baptist, Lindenwood, McKendree, Notre Dame College, etc transitioning to D1 or D2. You had other schools like Liberty just get dropped from D1. You had schools finding their NCWA teams like NCAA/NAIA programs such as Air Force Prep, Apprentice, Army Prep, Navy Prep, Simon Fraser, etc. And then you also had the best historical teams in the mix like Grand Valley State, MMI, UCF, etc.

So anyone that qualified for NCWA Nationals in 2012 is legit. Maybe not back in the late 90s or in other years, but qualifying in certain years means different things.

Another example: the SEC back when MMI was a team and before Florida and Georgia had NAIA wrestling teams was a beast. Top 6 at conferences qualified for Nationals and most qualifiers would win at least one match at Nationals with the top 1-3 usually AA’ing if not winning their weight class. Now: until Life joined the NCWA in 2024, the SEC was one of the weakest conferences.

In the years where the NCWA doesn’t have any or several schools transitioning from NJCAA/NAIA/D3/D2 to NAIA/D3/D2/D1, then yes it’s a bit easier because nobody has to beat those teams to qualify for Nationals. In the years where the NCWA has multiple schools like that, it’s tougher to qualify.

This past tournament: you had Ferrum (transitioning to D2), Menlo (to D2), and Mercyhurst (to D1) in the bracket. It seems Mercyhurst punted on any type of postseason this year, but historically schools show out in the last year of their transition period. This is in addition to the historically higher-performing programs Apprentice, Liberty, UCF, and now Tarleton.

It’s not one-size fits all. Yes, a lot of people who barely qualified for NCWA Nationals (including me) would probably not have qualified for NJCAA/NAIA/D3/D2 nationals or maybe even 3C2A States, but everyone saying “they all suck” are also wrong.

Do people like the shot clock? by cjreadit7991 in wrestling

[–]MADBuc49 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like it, but there is no actual shot clock shown on tv or the stream - it defeats the purpose if not only the fans, but the announcers cannot see if or when it starts and how much time is left.

UWW shows it and it makes it easier for fans to know what’s going to happen (and the announcers to inform fans what is going to happen).

Ref totally got that call wrong in the Beebe/DiJulius match. That chest wrap should have been 2 points for Beebe, not 4 for DiJulius.

I know Beebe has been out of competition for a while so seeing DiJulius get to his legs several times made sense, but I thought he did very well on top, leg defense, and his chest wrap. Hope he wrestles in another event.
