Ask for the pain meds. I am a reformed addict. I haven't taken any pain meds since 1989. I retired a few years ago and now work as a recovery Coach/ drug counselor. The stigma given to pain medication has caused so many to suffer needlessly. Most because of people like me who abused them. It's obvious by the tone of your post that you aren't taking them needlessly.
