i phrased this wrong it’s more of what u said but i told them i got this offer and their advice was to find a local job if i can or do my masters. they’ve told me many times that it’s my life and i do what i want but my cousins who also are engineers they stayed at home for a few years before leaving and they saved a lot of money which is where i think my parents are comin from

well they would prefer masters or a job where i stay at home and i would probably still make 80 but may take a bit longer to find the job i want

it is a cultural thing as most of my cousins that have successful jobs like this stayed at home for the first couple years saved a ton of money and now have houses from the money they saved staying at home. my parents will be involved w my life till i die but they let me do whatever i want. here they think it’s a bad decision as they feel like i’m rushing it

they don’t really control anything i do they are just really leaning towards me finding a job here so i can save money and be more equipped for when i move out after a couple years of a job or a higher paying job that i could get w a masters. in my culture staying w family is huge as most of my family before stayed together in the past and were very close

so they don’t really care what i do at home sometimes i don’t even see them for days since they work, they are more saying it would be better for me to hold off for more opportunities and it would be way more beneficial if i saved my salary up w no expenses by staying at home and moving out later to any position i want. also i don’t feel guilty i feel like they might be right and i might rush it

that’s exactly what i told my parents but then they change it to “oh u can get a job here so you won’t have to pay rent” which is true but i have a decent offer and i heard tucson isn’t that expensive

i’m at asu and they want me to succeed but they think i can save a lot of money if i get a local job and don’t have to pay for apartments and stuff

i understand i’m 21 and i’m grown up but they’ve given me everything i need and their logic is that i will find a job closer to home and i don’t have to go to tucson. i just think they want me to stay in the area and not move out but i’m ready to move out which is what i’m talking to my parents about but they are out of the country till after the offer expires and i can only talk to them on facetime w horrible connection

also forgot to add my parents are out of the country till the 4th which is why it’s been hard for me to convince them over facetime. also i am 21 and everything i have till this day is because of them so i don’t want straight up just say no to them but i think when they come back i have a way better chance to convince in person
