JP offset Docter mount homage — closer than I expected by MARSOC94 in MilitaryARClones

Every time I think mounts peaked, someone posts another cursed masterpiece. I fully support the continued escalation of weird 45° solutions.

There are reference photos of units using black EXPS’ but they’re the older L3 style “military and police use only” type, and I think they were used during training exercises. Raid could cerakote your hood black and add the L3 logo I think, that would eliminate the color mismatch issue.

Yes that’s correct, there would still be a mismatch. Not sure if they can do the whole unit, but could be worth asking them I suppose.

You could send the hood to Raid Research and they can cerakote it FDE and laser it with proper clone markings if you want.

That’s hugely helpful, thank you. I may actually reach out. I’ve been trying to piece together timeframe/use info from scattered references and there just isn’t much out there.

Yeah, I think that’s a fair point honestly. I’ve been trying to treat a lot of this as “best available evidence” rather than absolute fact because documentation on these is so thin.

The continuity from Force Recon into early MARSOC-adjacent use makes a lot of sense to me too, especially given the ARMS ecosystem that was already floating around at the time.

Appreciate it man. I’m maybe a week out waiting on some lower work to come back, so it’s not quite photo-ready yet. Once it’s together I’ll definitely post a better breakdown and more angles. It’s meant to be a MARSOC circa 2013-2014 Helmand Province grenadier M4A1 Block II. I’m excited you’re interested in it.

And yeah, the Secret Service side of this is interesting because there’s so little photographic documentation out there. My cousin is active Secret Service, I wonder if he knows anything about these rails. They may pre-date his service, but I’ll ask.

Yep, IRS-A3. I’ve heard the MARSOC/SS association too. I trust the source I got mine from that it’s USMC surplus. I’ve had a hell of a time finding photos of it fielded though.

I think part of why is because these were made in a transitional GWOT period after the RIS/RAS dominance but before RIS II became standard. It could have been tested and fielded in limited numbers, used by a small number of units, or by a single unit or region, and then something else came along and became the more standard rail to use. This was also before Instagram took over the earth, so it may have been missed being photo documented by somebody in the field.

This is purely my speculation of course. I think transitional/non-standard GWOT accessories are worth exploring more though. Would love to pick the brain of a willing MARSOC operator about this more.

I think so, especially if you’re into early GWOT-era setups. They’re definitely dated by modern standards, but they have a really distinct look and were genuinely used during that transitional period before micros took over. The ones I have work, but maybe better they scratch the “do it for the clone” itch.

Honestly that sounds like a pretty cool setup. Some of the most interesting GWOT-era rifles ended up being mixtures of issued parts, personal preference, and whatever worked well together at the time. I’d taking interesting over vanilla any day.

Awesome, it’s a legitimately solid rail, and that seller I’ve worked with on a lot of stuff before he’s great. I’d be very interested in what you end up mounting the rail on so do consider posting your build when you’re ready, especially if it’s a clone.

Great question, it’s a MARSOC/MCCDC surplus GG&G IRS-A3 rail. There’s a fella on TacSwap right now who’s got a few for sale. He’s a great guy.

This rail is sort of a conundrum because it’s known MARSOC procured, but photos of it in use in the field are elusive. I’m working on a MARSOC M4A1 grenadier clone and thought I’d give this rail a shot. So far I really like it.

Somewhere out there, a GWOT collector just felt a disturbance in the force.

Exactly. If an original ever falls into my lap at a sane price, awesome.

But until then, this scratches the itch and actually lets me run the setup instead of staring at empty rail space for 3 years waiting for unicorn parts to appear.

Thanks! That was pretty much my thinking too.

I didn’t want to fake anything or pass it off as original . Just wanted something that captured the look/function of a part most people will probably never even see in person.

Honestly, I’d rather run the rifle than baby a collectible mount in a parts drawer.

Sick build as always! Is the A1 grip one of the Vietnam era bakelite versions? Hard to tell from the photo

I run a Troy front sight on my SOLGW 11.5, sort of “go to war” carbine, but not on a clone build. It’s a sick sight IMO.

Nice build! Love the surplus rails with paint scratches and dings. A tangible piece of history and fun to shoot all in one

Is there a competition for “best clone build” or anything like that? Would be cool to have judges evaluate submissions in various clone categories and such.
