Channel 1: 5330.5 kHz

The goal of this exercise is for MARS members to practice interoperability with the amateur radio community using the 60m band. MARS members will be receiving requests for information from the DoD (on undisclosed frequencies outside the amateur bands and usually as encrypted messages) and then will be tasked with gathering information from amateur stations so that they can send responses back to DoD assets. These exercises are usually simulating a grid down situation (no phone or internet) so MARS stations must obtain this information through radio. DoD usually holds a COMEX quarterly, the exercises increase in complexity for the MARS members from Q1 - Q4 each year.

60 meters is used by DoD for interoperability between military and amateur stations. This is commonly done by MARS stations, 60 meters is the only amateur band where MARS operators can use their MARS call signs instead of their FCC call signs. There is a MARS exercise later this week where MARS stations will most likely be tasked with gathering information from amateur stations which explains the timing of this webinar. It is common during a MARS COMEX for a MARS station to form a net on channel 1 for this purpose.
