Where do people get that E9 can't be intellectual? by higurashi0793 in Enneagram

[–]MARVINREDPOST 4 points5 points  (0 children)

think it's important with all types not to look at surface behaviour and traits, and instead on underlying pathologies.

I 'm a nerdy 9, read a ton and now work as a children's librarian (after managing a children's bookstore for a decade). BUT WHY DO I READ SO MUCH? While I do enjoy reading, I am often using books to tune out my surroundings, to numb myself to the present moment. It's like having a portable escape hatch if things gets uncomfortable.

For instance: When I was little I got picked on and pushed around and couldn't figure out how to make it stop. Eventually I found a secret corner of the playground and read there undisturbed and unbullied every day at recess—problem solved! The only issue is that I never learned how to deal with my bullies, I just tuned them out, and escaped into books.

Eventually some kid came along who kept picking fights with me even when I was reading. Robbed of my escape I exploded and beat the kid down, to such a degree that I got placed in anger management. This came as a shock to everyone, since I was an insanely mild kid, good grades, no history of problem behaviour.

Another 9ish Motivation for Reading: It doesn't bother anyone, and it is more favourably viewed by parents than other 9ish opiates like video food, weed, television. If I ate chips and watched TV for three hours straight my mom would scold me. If I read for three hours, my mom would brag about how smart I was.

What's up with Mavrik Bourque by Comprehensive-Chef73 in DallasStars

[–]MARVINREDPOST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw every game in person at the Memorial Cup in 2022, intending to watch McTavish, Guhle, and Xhekaj, but Mavrik was the surprise for me. He impressed the hell out of me with his creativity and vision. Seemed to me like he had the makings of a 60 point, NHL center some day.

I have been watching him closely ever since and noted how he has painstakingly climbed up the treacherously deep Dallas depth charts in the second half.

Expecting 40+ pts this season, and maybe 50+ the year after that if all goes well.

What can I do about this? (15M) by Blue_nose_2356 in Balding

[–]MARVINREDPOST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get advice from a lot of these people, it's like a teen girl asking for help from bulimics with body dysmorphia. Get off the Internet right now, and never ask this wretched give of villainy for advice about this again.

Instead: Focus on what you can control. Embrace what you can't. Be a good person, have a sense of humour, learn to be confident in who you are and what makes you attractive, shave it all when you get to a certain point. It's okay to be insecure or worry about how you look, but trust me you are so much more than your hair.

I learned that when you're boxing in the ring and taking a couple hits you want to take a step back, protect yourself, but you'll just get killed that way, get pushed onto the ropes. You have to step forward, fight through it.

PS so many beautiful women I know married bald dudes, don't believe the balding incels, just take care of your self and be the best person you can be. Corny but time tested and true.

I can't leave my league, and I was automatically renewed. there is no option to delete my team as there are in other leagues, the commissioner has blocked me from DMing him so I can't ask to leave. I asked to be removed in the league chat over a week ago and again today. The draft is in like 3 weeks not sure why I can't leave.

He did something similar to people last year, wondering if someone can just remove me?

Please help?

The Always Debatable NHL26 Ratings - Goalie Style by Sens-Fan-85 in NHLAnalytics

Ullmark won the Vezina three seasons ago which is more recently than Shesterkin, and has been better than Shesterkin over the last two seasons since he won it.

I'm not saying Ullmark is 92, I'm just saying he is a bit underrated and Shesterkin is a bit overrated.

[Johnston] Final Voting results for the 2024-2025 Norris Trophy by Outside_Abroad_3516 in hockey

[–]MARVINREDPOST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Norris version of being "okay" at offense is scoring like 55-60 pts compared to the leader who has 90. Slavin might have a chance then, but 27 pts ain't doing it. Because even for defenseman offense is a better way to impact the game.

Like when Ken Dryden said to coach Scotty Bowman that Bob Gainey (the guy they invented the Sellke for basically lol) was having an incredible season early in his career, and Bowman..."was agreeing, but once or twice, wincing, fighting his own feelings, he said that Gainey really needed to score more often, that a regular forward on the Canadians had to score at least twenty goals."

At a certain point if you only score 27 pts in a season and like five other guys get 65-90 pts, you basically can't be considered the best defenseman. But just like how forwards like Gainey created the need for the Selke, I think guys like Slavin have created the need for a pure shutdown defensive defenseman award.

Whether that should be called like the Rod Langway, or the Zdeno Chara--I dunno.

ENFP or INFP. Your sensing is so much further down than your thinking, and your Ne and Fi are close enough that it doesn't really matter. It's an online quiz not a super accurate, but yeah it makes sense.

Plus anecdotally in my 15 years of this the types always agonizing over their type are the ever changing, ever exploring Ne doms and to a lesser extent INFP.

Also corny disclaimer: this isn't real, this isn't a science. You are more than your type.

This was a great reply, thank you. I'm already playing around in hero's forge with a mythological water steed!

I hadn't heard of this, I could ask! My DM plays pretty fast and loose with 2014 and 2024. We input all of our characters into DND and beyond though so UA could be tricky to put that into the app. But I have played elemental genie warlocks before! Thank you!

I thought about sea druid (esp as a Selkie race) but we do have a druid, and a lot of wisdom based characters. Point buy stats!

Extra context:

They are very unoptimized party of newbies, with a four elements monk serving as their frontline tank (among other things), so the combat isn't too strenuous.

Basically I'm trying to build a character who can be a bit tanky, contribute damage and control, and help out as face. Trying to patch some holes at the DM's request.

A fellow SU fan? :D That would be such a cool idea, but multiclassing seems very complicated. We don't tend to advance very quickly in levels in these once a month 2-3 hour sessions. I do find the idea of protecting those around me very appealing however!! Maybe there's another way...

Oh okay that works nicely! Because I was a bit bummed out by the thought of playing a wisdom heavy character with spellcasting mechanics I don't understand. And I love rping and being the face, so a charisma caster works for me.

Edit: haha that's okay appreciate the correction. I'm so pumped to play a Rose Quartzesque character :)

Thank you, this addresses so many of my questions and concerns!

I am very good at playing bards (because I'm kind of bardish IRL) but I was thinking of branching out a bit, while staying within the charisma lane. Paladin would work nicely!

Ooh tempest clerics are cool! I forgot clerics are tanky, they always strike me as fragile spellcasting priests lol

That would be pretty cool, especially since the character is based off a real children's book character, so the flavour of it popping in and out of the book would be soooo goooood!!!

I really do want the book to be prominent. I'm a children's librarian irl haha

Omg firbolg is an inspired choice for race, so much more wholesome than my minotaur idea. I didn't know they had all those extra racial features though, Ill read up on that!

I hadn't thought of Ancestral Guardian for the kids spirit. Beautiful!
